Bench Scoring
The bench is struggling. We need more scoring from them, they are averaging 14 pts per game but that number is inflated from a few blowouts. In the last 6 games, 4-6 have been in the single digits with the other 2 games being blowouts. I hope when we get deeper into conference play Green and Carver will be averaging 5 ppg each.
Is Green still dealing with health issues?

We really need that 6th man who comes off the bench strong.

That should be MHJ or X. I feel like they both need to be more involved for us to make a run at the title.

X was involved plenty last night and struggled.

Yeah, Carver will be very, very important with our big's tendency for foul trouble and Porter needing medical breaks .

RE: Bench Scoring
I like AC but he currently isn't the offensive spark we need. We don't lose much when he spells Brandan.

RE: Bench Scoring
I would like to see what would happen if X could have a game where he hits his first shot to develop some confidence. It seems like for the last few games he has missed his first shot and then isn't as aggressive.
I am also a little surprised that he doesn't take the ball to the basket more than he does given his ability to handle the ball. When he does take it to the basket he relies on a floater (which Twardzik hates) which is a difficult shot falling rather than attacking the rim or pulling up for an open 8 footer. Hopefully that part of his game can start to develop.

RE: Bench Scoring
Carver is really playing well defending and rebounding. Green is a freshman so he will be streaky. Hopefully he picks it up soon.
We will always have 2-3 starters in the game. (unless blowout) THey don't necessarily need to score a ton.

I don't remember too many times any of our guys being aggressive going to the basket last night.

RE: Bench Scoring
Another night with 3 points from the bench vs NT. Need more if we want to beat WKU.

RE: Bench Scoring
Green struggled last night, we desperately need that reliable scorer off the bench. He will get there but damn that one shot/pass thing was the nail in the coffin

His defense was the bigger nail in the coffin. Every time he was in the game, we couldn't stop them. When the starting 5 were in the game, defense was good enough to offset the poor shooting.
On a positive note, the bigs did a pretty good job containing MTSU in the paint, even with Brandan sitting much of the 1st half.

RE: Bench Scoring
I totally agree that the lack of bench scoring is probably the biggest chink in our armor. I did want to point out that AC did a good job of guarding King last night. I was watching that matchup particularly and most of his damage was done when someone else was on him. I noticed in the second half after King scored a couple baskets in a row that JJ immediately went to AC and he came in and shut it down. Unfortunately, that's when Potts decided to show up.

Agree with this, the kid MTSU put in that was 1 for 10 on the season, splashed a wide open three from the corner, because Green was double covering Porters man instead of covering his guy. I realize this is one play, but this is a prime example why the young guys don't play much. It doesn't matter if you shoot well, if you can't defend, or even be in the right place on the court, you need to sit and learn.

Im almost positve that was Caver. If not, it happened to Caver as well.

This happened a few times to a few different players. Over pursuit on the ballhandler during picks, allowing the screener to leak out into open space.

It happens all the time. It's a strategy issue, and it's the reason we are one of the worst 3 point defenses in the country.

But also one of the best defensive teams overall because we don't give up easy shots.

I thought he was referring to when the MTSU guy had the ball under the basket. Caver kinda hesitated on whether to double or not and then decided to double and the offensive guy slid over to the corner and drained a 3.
