WAC POY frontrunners
Up to this point we have two candidates:
Zach Lofton-NMSU-Not here just cause I'm a homer. Lofton is leading in four categories in conference, Scoring (3rd), rebounding, field goal percentage. and 3 point field goals made.
Akolda Manyang-Utah Valley-Another player leading in four categories, Scoring (5th), rebounding, field goal percentage, and blocked shots.
No other player comes close. FYI, Josh Braun is behind both these players in scoring. If the award was given today it would be between Manyang and Lofton. Braun not even close, or anyone from CSUB.

I think an argument can be made for Seattle's Mataj Kavas. And, I wouldn't leave out UTRGV's Nick Dixon either.

Look at overall stats. Looking at stats and facts there would only really be two players that are frontrunners.

Hmmm? Mataj Kavas is currently 2nd in scoring, 6th in rebounding, 7th in FG%, 3rd in FT%, 4th in 3FG%, 1st in 3pt FGs made, and 4th in defensive rebounding. Kavas is currently in the Top 10 is seven individual categories which the WAC tracks.

The POY would normally come from a team that was least in the running for regular season or tournament champion. If it weren't for that I'd say he shouldn't have left out Dixon.

Maybe... UMKC's Martez Harrison won WAC POTY when they weren't really a Conference contender.
I don't think UTRGV will the WAC. But admittedly, the Vaqueros are a better team than I first thought. They will be a dangerous team to play in the WAC Tourney for the conference main contenders.

RE: WAC POY frontrunners
I’m not sure what’s happened with Braun this year. So far, Vernon is the Lope whose presence on the court most affects the game outcome. Games that Keonta stays out of foul trouble, Canyon usually does well. But yeah, Josh just isn’t having the year we all hoped he would have. He’s a genuinely great guy and a great ambassador for the school. I feel bad that he’s slumping at the worst time of his career. We still have over half a season to play. He can bounce back in conference play. Maybe the challenge at Boise will be his turning point!

I thought Dixon was the best player last year and is best player this year. Akolda Manyang is close. Does best player mean most valuable though?

Lofton with another monster week this week. I'm sure he will be WAC POY this past week. Braun has not done squat to live up to his pre-season expectations. If Lofton wins WAC POY that will be two for him.

Kavas with 18/5/2 last night in the win. The WAC FOY hasnt scored less than 17 all month.

There might be a case for Jemerrio getting the WAC POTW honor. He has a triple-double (10 pts., 11 rebs., 11 ast.) and a double-double (11 pts., 13 rebs., 4 stls.) this week... But it will "probably" go to Lofton.

Zach Lofton is clearly the best player in the WAC.

I wasn't talking about who is the best player this season. I was just pointing out that along with Lofton, Jemerrio also had a very good week.... for Player of the Week honors
