Sure they would. That just emphasizes the lesser status of UC and Memphis. O$U had no problem taking UC's radio guy, or whatever hat old high school backfield coach is. They'd have no problem taking Cronin if he was considered one of the top few coaches in the country. And no trouble taking Fickel back if he takes UC to the top.

I think Norvell will be strongly considered for the Arkansas job.

Initially it sounded like it was going to be announced Wed/ Thurs of this week, but apparently, Mr. Kelly, had some very specific things he needed done prior to completing negotiations.

Somewhere along the line UF pivoted from Mr. Frost, to Mr. Kelly. Lotta speculation on why this was the case. Either which way, they were 1a & 1b for the position all along with Mr. Mullen being a distant 3rd option.

Nebraska is gonna fire their coach, so one way or another our conference is likely to lose AT LEAST 1 of our coaching stars. Memphis's coach is rumored to be somewhere down the list for UT. Whenever they give up on their Gruden dream.

Bolded, I agree, this is life in the AAC link in the food chain. On one hand, it makes sustained success a problem for any G5 league. On the other hand, it creates opportunity for Fickell in the near term as a UCF or Memphis may take a step back from a lost recruiting cycle and the uncertainty a new staff may represent.

I tend to agree here.

The only thing that gives me pause is that the word is Arkansas - rightly/ wrongly - believes that they have the resources, and fan interest, to land a "big name" coach. I've read that they're targeting TCU's coach, and Auburn's coach (he's from the state). No way i see the latter leaving. Clearly Arkansas is a step back from Auburn.

Gary Peterson, doesn't seem likely to leave either. So after they strike out on their wishlist targets i can see them 'settling' with, Norvell. I hope not tho...I want the AAC to keep him for some more time. Not to mention, idk that he's really differentiated himself just yet. It's not like he's turned around the program.

Regarding Jones, I'm hearing from family down there that Ole Miss is seriously thinking about him to be the guy to rebuild after the NCAA mess. Plus could backload the contract like Charlie Strong since UT is picking up $8.2 million these next 2 years.

I'm surprised Charlie Strongs name hasn't come up for the Arkansas job. He is from Arkansas. I personally think USF might be a better job though.

Using what metrics did you reach USF>Arkansas?

Except for the geography I cannot think of any.

SEC v AAC
Stadium
Attendance
History
National Brand

Agree with all of this. Arkansas is a brand name in their state. South Florida isn't even in South Florida, don't have their own stadium and don't get good attendance. Recruiting Florida might be easier in Tampa but Arkansas is in the SEC, will pay more and will enable a coach (maybe Strong) to get better recruiting coaches there. I'm not convinced strong is a great coach but I am convinced Arkansas is a better program. I've also been to the campus - it is a nice campus with a traditional feel to it.

Well maybe a better job for Strong. I think it's easier to consistently be successful at a place like USF, and have 10-12 win seasons vs having to go to a place like Arkansas and compete with Saban and company.

I'd be shocked if Butch Jones resurfaces anywhere in the SEC.

There has been speculation all season here in LA that if Mora did not win big this year he would be out. I wish UC was further along in the rebuild considering we play at the Rose Bowl next year.

It's done.

It's basically been done for about a week. This past week was spent, a) perfecting the wording on his contract so as to be certain they don't violate his buyout money clause from the 49er's, b) he submitted names of coaches for a staff. he wanted them all vetted ahead of time. typically this is done after the fact, however much like, Mr. Kelly, some of the coaches were at Oregon, and potentially had collateral damage from NCAA infractions.

He is said to have signed off on the contract today, and from rumblings at the program it looks like it'll be formally announced tomorrow.

Well Stoops really screwed up the one opportunity for them to beat Florida ever. Now that Kelly has landed in Florida, they won't sniff that for another 20 years.

Quote: COLLEGE STATION - Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin will be fired following the Aggies' regular-season finale at LSU on Saturday night, multiple people with knowledge of the situation said.

Sumlin is expected to be dismissed in the day or days following the A&M game against the Tigers. The Aggies are a double-digit underdog to the Tigers, and an A&M victory wouldn't save his job at this point, the sources said.

Sumlin will show up again. He was really good at Houston. Not sure it will be a P5 program, but he will be back.

Does he want an OC job at a midwest urban powerhouse, waiting to rise again?

If I remember correctly, he was a candidate for UC's head coach job in 2009 after Kelly left but declined an interview.
