Time will tell. I'm sure he can fall in love with Knoxville the same way he fell in love with Ames. But, right now he's in a good spot...win 7 or 8 games a year at ISU and he's gold...go to the SEC, and 7 or 8 wins won't be enough if 3 or 4 of them come from out-of-conference play. Safer bet for him would be to stay put.

I'm pretty sure Candle's wife is a California, west coast girl if that factors into a future move?

She is a California girl and he told me he loves it there, too. He probably would have jumped at the chance if UCLA had come calling.

And right on cue...Twitter reports are that Campbell just got a new 6-year contract with a substantial pay raise. He’s not going anywhere else, at least for another season.

RE: 2017 coaching changes
Former Rocket coaches getting serious change. Maybe it's time to change the negotiating. O'Brian should be able to get the next candidate to pay for the job and get a 2 million or more buy-out in the contract.

How does one seriously try to tell Candle he shouldn't go for that kind of cash? He likes California? Eh, to each his own but there's a lot of cash there. Of course there's also multi-millionaires living in the cars in alleys as it's all they can afford.

Started 6-2 on the season and finished 7-5. November blues followed Campbell to Ames!! LOL!

RE: 2017 coaching changes
There goes my Campbell theory. That's a pretty sweet deal without the pressure of a Tennessee or Nebraska. It will be interesting to see what he can do. Right now, I don't see where Candle would go. There really aren't any openings in the midwest. Maybe Memphis if it opens up. Anything else would be a surprise. We just might get another year after all.

Part of Campbell's contract called for a million dollar raise for the staff's compensation.

Agree. MAC coaches almost always go to low level Big Ten or Big 12 schools. Can't see any southern or western school signing a MAC coach.

I don't think he has to DO anything other than hold steady. But I think the presumption is, he'll keep the program on the same trajectory but I don't think it's a mandate. Iowa St isn't looking for a Saban. They're looking for a Snyder (K State). They were smart to raise the compensation for the staff.

Funny, as rich as it sounded to me he struck it to find that he is now only TIED with PJ Fleck for compensation. Maybe I'll look see how their first years compared.

Saw a tweet from Bruce Feldman last night that said Candle is a candidate for the Miss St job, along with a number of assistants from P5 schools. Interesting

I think that would be a far tougher job to come into & hold onto than, say, Iowa State. As I posted earlier about the Tennessee job, in the SEC they EXPECT non-conference wins and want to be in contention for a division championship--anything less, and you come under great pressure.

DIdn't Miss St just fire someone that shouldn't have been fired?

Miss St is ranked around 200, Iowa St closer to 100. If Candle, I'd set my standard by what Campbell did, he's as good if not better. And what wife wants her husband anywhere near those Miss St coeds. Not a good job. Hold out for Neb. If Frost isn't interested, Neb be getting someone that would make them competitive again.

While I'm obviously interested in what happens to our situation here vis a vis Candle, I think the big story is Frost and Central Florida. How much will they sweeten the pot to keep him there? From what I've read, he's one name that appears on just about every P5 coaching vacancy wish list. This is CFU's chance to send a message and perhaps set themselves up for an invite to a bigger, P5 conference in the not-to-distant future...

Florida hired Dan Mullen away from Mississippi State.

I don't see this having any legs...The majority of Miss St fans probably have no idea who Toledo is. Their fan base would lose their minds if they grabbed a coach from the MAC...especially with no ties to the "south."

From what I've been reading, Candle is about 5th or 6th as a candidate for Miss St.
