How long have the Alpha Dogs been in existence?
How many Alpha Dogs are currently enrolled?
What type, if any, recruiting do they do to grow their size and resources?

Alpha dogs started with withers.

As far as recruiting others I am not really sure. I know a few, but I am not sure if there is active recruiting.

Kudos to the Breeze for issuing a retraction (I hope it wasn't just on Twitter however).

Agreed. No need to a) try to defend the piece or b) leave the kid out to dry so good on them for pulling it.

the Breeze is run by students.

it was a bad article. But that's what school is all about. education.

hopefully all involved when learn from this and we'll see them do great things in their journalism futures.

never take the facts for granted. in today's connected world, you'll get roasted in a second.

Credit to the breeze for retracting it when it needed to be. It was painfully inaccurate and made assumptions that weren't true.
Credit our readership for holding them accountable for that accuracy.

Wow. First I'm hearing of Alpha Dogs. Impressive, and looks like Withers has left an impression beyond what many (myself included) give him credit for.

For all Withers faults, I think his lasting legacy at JMU will be how he modernized the program and pushed things forward with regards to fundraising, facilities, and program image.

I think his on-field results were steps in the right direction too, but a lot of the things fans don't see everyday (but the players do) have his fingerprints all over it.

If he could have coached defense we'd have had a heck of a team...

Yup, he definitely deserves his due for modernizing and energizing the program as a whole. And a really good recruiter too. We wouldn't be where we are right now without that....If he just could have coached "D" and was nicer to the press.

Or, if he would have shared a bit more of his salary to hire a solid D coordinator *and* then been hands off with it (not insisting on a 3-4 defense). That was in some ways a fatal flaw, he still is trying to make the 3-4 work at TxSt.

Guys like Trott often don’t get enough credit. Coaches also work as a team, though the guy who puts that group together often get all of the blame or credit.
