Graduating (3): Mency, Jones, Lapray
One year (1) : Cashaw
Two years (4): Adams, Harrison, Martin, Meyer
Three years (4): Parrish, Osborne, Lester, Hunter
Four years (4): Mullins, Moore, Murphy, Millora-Brown

This means that barring a transfer or unusual injury situation, Rice is only looking for 1 player in the 2019 class.

Remains to be seen if Lapray has another year of eligibility after 2017-2018.

Great job! I know there was some good players in Texas that would come to Rice.
Coach Pera just needs to build a pipeline to the Texas coaches and looks like he doing that. Now we need to recruits some great players from Texas but more wins should help that.

2019 offer out to 6-7 Dylan Disu. If we're to get serious about recruiting Texas well, this is the kind of kid we need to get. He's from the Austin area. Only has two other offers but one of them is Stanford. High academic kid that can really play just 3 hours away.

Excellent! We need more great players from Texas and maybe reduce the transfer level at Rice. What ever happen to Marcus Jackson and Chad Lott. Are they still playing basketball and, if so, was it good move on their part as far as playing time and more exposure ?

Marcus Jackson is at University of California Santa Barbara and is averaging just under 8 points per game. Chad Lott is at Howard and is redshirting this year.

We sent somebody to see 2019 6-10 F Kadin Shedrick out of North Carolina last week. Offers from Bowling Green and Nebraska.

Jackson is the 5th leading scorer on UCSB.

Maxwell Kupchak (Mitch's son) is a 6' 7" forward who plays sparingly. The leading scorer is named Heidegger, and the coach is Joe Pasternack (no relation to the famous Hollywood movie producer Joe Pasternak.

Last night Quentin Mallora Brown scored 42 points with 13 boards and 6 blocks in a double overtime win. The previous game he had 17 of his team's 36. Not playing great competition, but it looks like he moves well for his size and has a fairly good skill set.

Think he projects as a true rim protector right now, which is something we haven't really had in the past few years. If he can supplement his defensive game with some offense (tough to really judge his offense against current competition), then he could be a good player.

In a possibly interesting twist, a twitter account posted that we and Davidson inquired about 2018 F Amari Haynes. A little odd to see us looking at a 2018 with a full class, which could mean we're already preparing for somebody to leave. Don't want to assume anything, but still curious.

I’d be amazed if we can get someone on campus who still has to “take care of business in the classroom” to get to FGCU. Looks athletic though, would be an upgrade in quickness over someone like Jones.

Stand-alone I'd agree with you, but considering Davidson was also inquiring about him I'd assume his academics are okay. In terms of his playing style, kid's odd, for lack of a better term. Extremely athletic, but not fluid at all and a string bean. Wouldn't be able to redshirt wherever he goes because he's a prep school kid, too.

RE: 2017-2018 Men's Basketball Recruiting Thread
Here's a bit of a complicated post: 2019 G Brendan Wenzel out of San Antonio visited campus a few months ago, along with the staff visiting him a couple times. Don't know if there's still interest there, but his younger sister is evidently a very good prospect in the 2022 class (she somehow committed to Texas Tech when she was like 12, and just decommitted). I somehow stumbled into the unending maze that is Twitter and found that she recently started following the entire staff and a couple players. Again, I highly doubt any of this means anything, but still interesting nonetheless. The brother is a 6-5 G who can shoot.

*Note: the mere fact that recruiting is actively going on in the 2022 + 2023 classes weirds me out and makes me feel old.

A friend of a friend is a women’s soccer player who committed (not to Rice) as a HS freshman. Even in the non-revenue sports offers are going out to 2022 and 2023 recruits. It’s ridiculous, we might as well just go to the European model of sports only clubs or set a minimum age for recruiting like start of junior year.

RE: 2017-2018 Men's Basketball Recruiting Thread
How are our scholarships going to be distributed next year?

Freshmen: 4 (we’ve signed 4 recruits)
Sophomore: 4 (Parrish, osbourne, hunter, Lester)
Juniors: 4 (Ako, Martin, Meyer, Harrison)
Senior: 1 (Cashaw)

I was thinking if AJ is truly calling it quits due to injury, I’d hope we grab a graduate transfer after the season or just another high level transfer like Egor or Parrish. But that’s already 13 scholarships without him. Was Lester on a 1 year scholarship since he was potentially going to be a PWO? Or did we just recruit 4 not expecting AJ to play or that someone would leave?

Connor will be our lone senior on the team if we don’t get a grad transfer. So I’d hope we take that route if we do have a spot. F

Apparently we’ve inquired about this guy (according to his prep schools Twitter)
2018 6’8 PF Sage Tolbert
https://www.hudl.com/profile/4939047/And...ge-Tolbert
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O5aIphZq8lM

So... someone might be leaving? Or he’s a preferred walkon? Or we’re just expressing interest and not going to actually offer.

RE: 2017-2018 Men's Basketball Recruiting Thread
If we're still pursuing big guys, my guess would be one (or more) of the current sophomore big guys might not be back. I've heard Meyer will be back but hopefully he's healthy. I still like Harrison's potential but he's probably been more in the doghouse than any of the current players. Martin would be a third guy in that category - I thought he showed the most improvement of the three throughout the season but he still needs to develop his game (specifically he needs to develop a more consistent outside jump shot).

We also have an open scholarship if Lester is a walk-on next year (remember now he was originally signed as a preferred walk-on but he was put on scholarship after one opened up).

In any case we should find out shortly what is happening - there is a reason I've bookmarked verbalcommits.com
