RE: Rice v Stanford SYDNEY CUP game thread
That is easy; to play close to home so my parents can see me play but no way I would play for Rice now. One final comment,
I thought this new defense would help us. I think it will in the future but the defense looked like they were not prepared. Yes/ back when SWC was tough Rice was a part of it, and you got kids who wanted good education and good football, other states were not there yet. Now they are- and let me ask this- are those 3 schools above perceived as more athletic friendly as Rice?

Well said.

If you're responding to me, that's not what I'm suggesting
I'm suggesting that say he's a tight end and although Stanford likes him, they have 5 already... so they don't have a spot for him in this years class. His choice isn't Stanford or Rice, but walk on at Stanford (and sit behind 5 guys) or get a scholarship to Rice or Fresno or even Boise.... who is better in football, but not near us in academics.... or SDSU.
It's an even easier call in the southeast where if you don't get the nod to Duke or Vandy, you sure aren't getting a look at top 25 football teams, but you may still be A top recruit for us
Oversimplifying, but a decent lazy strategy might be to recruit everyone Stanford recruits 'in case that doesn't work out' and everyone that UT recruits who has the academic credentials... not recruiting against UT or Stanford, but against Boise and Texas Tech if they get caught up in the numbers. All sorts of reasons someone might like Houston and Rice over Boise and Lubbock

I also let my season tickets go, although there were more factors than just team performance. I confess I was influenced by the people, some posting in this thread, who advocated not renewing as a way to pressure the AD into firing Bailiff. Vote with your feet, they said. Withhold your dollars and your attendance, they said. Then I had to sit through a month of listening to the same people badmouth the Australia trip as just a ploy to get money. Boy, did I ever get snookered.
In any case, now that I have made the move, I'm sticking with it. I will not come back until we have a better program than the one Bailiff has led. Since he led us to two 10-win seasons, that means we have to have at least one 11-win season or three 10-win seasons to be better. Otherwise, we just changed nameplates.
And to think, I was accepted at Stanford but chose Rice.
