Official Camp Info Thread
a thread for everything noteworthy happening in our fall camps
ill start:
--UConn has named JuCo qb David Pindell starting qb, beating out multi-year starter bryant sheriff, pindell is a dual threat
--tulsa might do a 2 qb system if none of the qbs separate and it doesn't seem like either is right now (references his 2 qb system with keenum/joseph on keenums first year), but he likes both
--ross trail seems to have taken the lead in the uc qb competition and hayden moore seems to have a minor injury but coach says the competition is still open
--kyle allen is the overwhelming favorite in the qb competition but postma has had an amazing camp, so has allen.. no official word has been made
--ecu's qb competition is almost over, coach mo says he already has an idea but is going to give them more chances to make a case
-- little word on the temple and smu competition, but coaches have bragged than ben hicks (smu's returning starter) has gained 17 pounds of muscle and way better..
-- not even sure if navy is having a competition but most expect zach abey to start
thats it for everyone on the qb competition who dont already have starters

RE: Official Camp Info Thread
It looks like Tulsa's starting star linebacker might change. I've heard they're experimenting with some different defensive schemes that will allow 6-4 McKinley Whitfield to come down to the star spot from his traditional role as a safety. Last year, Whitfield had 2 blocked punts, and interception, and a fumble return. Not for sure yet, but it sounds like his backup, Manny Bunch has been doing a very good job at safety in fall camp.
In other news, Tulsa fans are still not sure as to the academic status of Ramadi Warren who was an up-and-comer at RB during his freshman year. (He busted some big runs as a backup) But, he had to sit out last season do to academics. His status will probably determine whether or not the coaches pull the RS from Shamari Brooks who was the HS player of the year for OK last season. They've been really high on Brooks.

RE: Official Camp Info Thread
Tough to get a read on Mo. Both QB's did pretty well Saturday. Going off physical attributes, Sirk has the arm/legs/body of a high level D1 QB (proved he was his one healthy yr @ Duke).
Minshew has a good head on his shoulders, has been running our O longer and by reports has full control of the team and is the unspoken leader. He actually outperformed Sirk in the scrimmage Saturday. Was more accurate and didn't turn it over.
I think it'll be Minshew given his intangibles, his physical capabilities are enough to win as well. If he falters at all though I'd expect to see Sirk spell him quickly.

Tulane:
- Juco transfer Jonathan Banks, former 4 star recruit, was assumed to be the starter. It still seems he has the job but apparently Johnathan Brantley, who started 2 games as a true freshman last year, is pushing him and making it more of a competition than anyone expected.

Yeah back in the Spring. From first hand accounts it seems Brantley is pushing to be more of a 1b rather than strict #2. We'll see what happens.

I think it's going to be Nutile or Russo for Temple. I don't think there's any way it's Marchi, and I expect him to transfer to an FCS school. Centeio has been ballin out, but I'm not sure he's necessarily ready as a true freshman. I expect him to redshirt. Nutile would probably make fewer mistakes as a veteran in comparison, but I don't think he has near Russo's ceiling and talent.

Agree with the above. I also think our defense will be very good. We could win or lose a lot of 13-6 games..

Memphis: We just lost slot receiver Sam Craft, a senior, to a second straight season ending injury. UC fans might recall him as the RB who ran all around them up in Cincy 2 years ago.
We are really deep at both WR and RB, so it won't hurt us. I just feel bad for the kid missing another season. He would have started as the slot WR.
Our questions remain on the defensive side, especially in the secondary, where we have only one returning starter. But our offense is so potent we might be able to outscore a lot of guys. And based on how our D did against the better teams last year, some change might be good for us. And our best players on D, including at LB, DE and S, should be even better.
Also, our depth has been reinforced with 2 straight great recruiting years.

You guys need to improve your run defense. How are your DT's?

Our D line returns mostly intact, with more depth, and we regained one of our best LBs (Jackson Dillon), who sat out most of last season. Dillon is a combo DE/OLB who is good against the run.
Also, our OL returns all but one, and from reports of practice last week, our D line has been handling our O line, 1s on 1s.
Our secondary, we lost all but one starter and are depending on Jucos, so we may be better against the run and worse against the pass this year. Just a guess, though.
And for Navy, we need to borrow the Chargers' D line, lol.

It's actually the other way, and Ben Hicks lost weight to become more mobile.

If they handed out the national championship trophey in August it would go to ECU.
