RE: CUSA Lines in The Sand - Week 1
OK lets see, a litttle early but the 1st week of the 2017 Football season is an easy one ...I think

Stanford vs Rice on Saturday Aug 26th: Unfortunately Stanford is going to make the owls into minute rice and win by 30+

FIU @ UCF Thursday Aug 31st: UCF is ready and they are on the verge of a few years with some great players they have recruited. UCF will shine moving forward and will have a very strong year in 2017. All the new guys for both teams will make big contributions. UCF by 12+.

Charlotte @ EMU Friday Sept 1st: Charlotte takes a step back and Eastern Michigan is moving forward. EMU had a good year in 2016. Their Coach has turned it around EMU by 20+

Lamar @ UNT Friday Sept 1st: UNT is not only mean they will bully Lamar. UNT wins by 25+

Navy @ FAU Friday Sept 1st: I think this will be a much closer game than the critics will predict or have predicted. However, Navy may edge the Owls out by 1 touchdown or a field goal.

AAMU @ UAB Saturday Sept 2nd: Great game for the Blazer to start their comeback story with. A&M will be competitive and a good team this year but I think the desire and determination will give the game to the Blazers. UAB by 12

UTEP @ Oklahoma Saturday Sept 2nd: Oklahoma is just to BIG and to talented to lose this one. Oklahoma by 20+

Kentucky @ USM Saturday Sept 2nd: Another flip of the coin game. However, all the critics are saying Kentucky will be much improved over last year. Early in the season I have to give the nod to the visitors. Kentucky by 2 scores.

Albany @ ODU Saturday Sept 2nd: The Danes are ranked as one of the top 25 in FCS this year. ODU will have three QB's in and out of this game. If one of them emerges as the clear favorite the Monarchs could be up by more .....but Monarchs end the day up by 20+.

Miami (OH) @ Marshall Saturday Sept 2nd: Marshall knows how to win at home. This year will not be a repeat of last year,. This is a must win for Marshall. The Herd in a squeaker.

Northwestern St @ La Tech Saturday Sept 2nd: Northwestern will not surprise the dogs again. LA Tech will roll in this game and when the dust settles they will have played a lot of players and be the victors. LA Tech by 25+

Houston @ UTSA Saturday Sept 2nd: Houston lost their coach but they win this game. UTSA will make it close but after 4 quarters the Cougars will prevail by 12.

EKU @ WKU Saturday Sept 2nd: WKU will have no mercy and their new coach will run the score up just to say "I am here": WKU by 40+

Vanderbilt @ MTSU Saturday Sept 2nd: This will be one of the more intriguing games of the first week. I think MTSU will get the offensive game rolling early and even though Vanderbilt will be better this year than last. I feel MTSU will win by a touchdown.

First if Lamar kicks a field goal against North Texas I will be shocked. We have a very nasty defense this season. In fact I think it may be better then our 2013 defense.

What makes you think FIU will beat UCF, on the road no less?

I doubt UTSA will beat Houston, certainly not by by 18 points.

Why do you have the WKU score that close? Is EKU a decent FCS team?

I think the UAB game could go either way. Just can't tell much about UAB until we see them on the field.

OK. Here ya go.

Shutouts are hard.

Quote:What makes you think FIU will beat UCF, on the road no less?

I expect FIU to be improved. Plus, screw Central Florida.

Quote:I doubt UTSA will beat Houston, certainly not by by 18 points.

They might not. I like UTSA at home.

Quote:Why do you have the WKU score that close? Is EKU a decent FCS team?

EKU is usually decent, but I picked it close? 52-21 is close?

Quote:I think the UAB game could go either way. Just can't tell much about UAB until we see them on the field.

I admittedly don't know anything about UAB or their opponent. However, I don't see how UAB will be anything but terrible this season. Their opponent has at least played football before.

Last year EKU was 3-8 and lose a lot of their offense for this season. With WKU's rep, I would say 52-21 is too close.

Their opponent is FCS and, just as a point of fact, you're wrong about the nature of this UAB team. Bill Clark had the option of starting back last year with a squad of what would have been freshmen, whoever hung around since 2014, and what they could scrape from JUCO. He purposely chose to wait until 2017 to have a team that has been together, practicing and scrimmaging, since spring 2016. There are almost 50 upperclassmen, JUCOs and transfers, on this roster. The team will be better than most expect.

As always, pick a winner of each game. Feel free to give your reason for the picks or pick a score but it is not a requirement.

MY LINE: UCF 35-17 A slaughter.

Friday Sept 1st:

If WKU only wins by 15 points and only puts up 35 against a very bad FCS team... we won't win 3 games this year

RE: CUSA Lines in The Sand - Week 1
I figured I better get these in since Rice decided to start a week early.
Saturday Aug 26th
Stanford vs Rice @Australia - I sure hope Rice can put some points on the board but see Stanford putting up a bunch more.

Thursday Aug 31st:
FIU @ UCF - The 2 Florida acronyms in Orlando battle it out. I have to lean towards the homestanding Knights but it won't be a laugher.

Friday Sept 1st:
Charlotte @ Eastern Michigan - The fact that the game is in Ypsilanti make me pick the Eagles, hoping for the upset though.
Lamar @ North Texas - The boys in Denton get a tune up out of the gate, time to see what the offense has this fall.
Navy @ FAU - Navy has been so good lately and the Owls have disappointed. I think the Owls prevail in a close one if they stop the option otherwise the Midshipmen pull it out.

Saturday Sept 2nd:
Alabama A&M @ UAB - welcome back to FBS football and whom better to get your feet wet than a FCS SWAC team.
UTEP @ Oklahoma - The Miners have a tough one to start out. Look for the Sooners to roll, Baker Mayfield is arguably the best QB in the nation.
Kentucky @ Southern Miss - The Golden Eagles won in Lexington last season so the Wildcats return the favor. Kentucky will be a better team this fall.
Albany @ Old Dominion - Lets see in 2016 Albany beat Buffalo who beat Akron who beat Marshall so ODU...?? nah..
Miami (OH) @ Marshall - The Redhawks made a bowl last fall and gave the Toppers a game, neither of which Marshall did but we'll have to see.
Northwestern St @ La Tech - Seems not too long ago a team from Natchitoches beat a CUSA team at their place or was that a dream?
EKU @ WKU - the Colonels use to be on the same level as WKU in football but that seems like light years ago, Toppers roll.
Vanderbilt @ MTSU - I would like to see a CUSA team put a L in the Commodores loss column but that will come later, Vandy gets lucky in this one.
Houston at UTSA - The Coogs will be the pick of all the pundits in sports world for the most part but the Roadrunners won't let them escape without a fight. Houston squeaks one out.

RE: CUSA Lines in The Sand - Week 1
Stanford - Owls with the upstanding but terrible coach get trucked.

UCF Close one

Eastern Michigan I can't see how we'll stop teams from getting ten yards in three downs.

North Texas they could beat Lamar, Jerome and Wayne

FAU Ole Miss' coach in 2018 gets off to a good start

UAB newbies with their weak scheduling

Oklahoma

Southern Miss

Old Dominion name the score

Marshall home team wins and Marshall goes another week without realizing Doc is awful.

La Tech see Old Ominion

Houston. Birds not quite up yet

WKU slow start but toppers roll.

MTSU cross my fingers pick. If they don't grip or get SEC reffed, they should win.
