Possible Future For All Female Football Teams, Lawsuits Filed

We may need to keep an eye on this one. If the girls who filed the suit could set precedents to all states in the future for high school and colleges to have an all female football teams. This could help offset the Title 9 issues. They could have the females play in the spring.

As long as the schools are title 9 compliant why would they have to sponsor women's football. We have women's lax and women's soccer and women's volleyball but non of those sports for males. As long as you have the equal number of scholarships throughout the athletic department you shouldn't be forced to start women's football. If they want to play football they are free to start a club sport and play from there.

They could form a team, but I'm not sure they'd have many opponents.
BTW, 50 at orientation probably translates to 20-25 for an actual team (based on similar orientations at my sons school for various sports - the yield is usually below 50%). This assumes the 50 doesn't include a contingent of "activists" who really have no intention of playing, but want to be political and show support. Whatever.
There would be many issues, such as field availability (Saturday games the easiest solution; practice is more problematic) and equipment and organizing HS conference. (probably a 7 on 7 league.) A big problem I see is making this a varsity sport would likely see the pool of women players very thin, as the season coincides with Soccer and Volleyball seasons and collides with Basketball fall training (the elite players use this time to gear up), which could eliminate most of the best athletes from the pool. Softball at least is in the spring. If football played at a club level, then participation rules would be relaxed and you could get some of the Basketball, Soccer, and Volleyball players. (Note Men's Volleyball is Spring, in large part to allow Football and Basketball players to participate).
I don't see a big legal issue. They can offer the sport and if participation is below a certain level drop it. Or if not enough schools just forget being a varsity sport and run it as a club level.

I'm all for it if the kids want to play. It says only 100 would be eligible for their high school, but maybe having an official high school team would spur more demand.
Meanwhile, in my high school there were 70 boys who tried out for the freshman basketball team, out of 100 in the class (so that's 4x70= 280 boys who want to play and 45 roster spots). Yet because their "group" is "overrepresented," the school is forbidden from providing more of them with an opportunity to play.
You know the world has gone crazy when your legal rights depend on which group you belong to.

Of all the possible things that NCAA member schools and their lawyers will be concerned about, this one will rank at the very bottom.

If UND can pull off dropping women's Hockey, at a school that is the definition of a Hockey school, then this is DOA.

There are some women leagues going on. Canada schools have a club for women football right now. There is the sexy clad women's pro arena football league that MTV seems to show on one of their channels as well. There seems there are a lot of women and girls want to play. Adams State is going have a place kicker on their men's team this fall. Colorado did have had a lawsuit against them when they had a woman on their team as a place kicker more than 10 years ago when Joey Klatt was a QB for the guys on the team made sexists remarks. If they do win? I think we might see an all female football teams. We could also see an all women's wrestling programs and so forth.

Maybe the answer to the Title IX issues and college sports participation issues in general is to have no more men's or women's sports but just have sports. No quotas, just the best athletes make the team. Women can play football if they play better than the men they are competing against for a spot on the roster. Same for all sports. Everyone has an equal opportunity according to their ability, not their gender.

Only that year's college graduates that aren't drafted can participate. They also try to get a good mix of graduates from every level of college football.

The championship game was team USA Vs team Canada. They both played football.
Japan Universities also have college teams.
China Universities just added the sport.
Australia also started tackle football at their universities.
UK, Germany, Austria and other European countries have club teams that could be full fledge sponsored sports.
The exhibition games every year had D3 vs the club teams of the European countries. All the D3 schools won. Even one that went 0-10 that year won their game in Europe.
There was one club team beat a D3 team one year.

Title IX literally says that schools receiving federal aid must satisfy the interests and abilities of females (the underrepresented gender) for participation in athletics programs.
That clears the way for a lawsuit to happen. So you either fight the legal battle, or figure out an agreement.

It's a handicap. Japan fields a team with players from the X-League, their semi-pro league, for instance. It wouldn't exactly be good for the sport's growth if the US joined and had Aaron Rodgers throwing dimes to Julio Jones over a bunch of weekend warrior Finns, after all.
