I just feel UNT is lucky to get this Home and Home, and UNT fans are acting like it is not enough because they are not P5.

in texas (with the G5s), only a fool would pick pick army over houston...you have no clue about this topic.

okstate only does 2 &1s with g5,

They signed a 1 for 1 with BSU (as did Florida State, UO, OSU, WSU, UVa...) and will play in Stillwater in 2018 and Boise in 2021.

but ill give you oklahoma state but in texas on the average year houston would draw more than kstate and with texas tech it 50/50

houston drew more than 3k more for utsa than kstate on a year we werent great...
but i acknowledge how the teams are doing will play into it with texas tech and kstate.. and top 15/20 kstate will probably out draw us ..and ranked texas tech...but you black and white p5 state is absurd...when the data clear shows otherwise
and im talkng real data not your made up ones

I for one, would love a home and home with Houston vastly more than KSU or Army. BTW, I am looking forward to the home and home games with Marshal and Rice. BSU only played Marshall once and won a close one in the 1994 1AA playoffs. The Broncos are 1-1-0 against Rice after trading blowout wins when we were both in the WAC in 2001 and 2002.

FWIW--the Houston allotment for the UTSA game has been sold out since Monday and the waiting list is growing. Not sure if UH is getting more (Texas St refused to allot any more tickets last last year, so I doubt we get more). Whether we get more or not, it means UTSA will be selling extra tickets to UH fans. I see no reason N Texas won't see similar sales.

Regional P5 such as OK State, TCU or Texas Tech would have been a better draw and create more excitement and buzz in the NTX media. Only reason to drop Army would have been for P5 school not a G5. So I understand the disappointment of some fans when Houston was signed. Houston is good G5 to sign a 1 and 1 deal no doubt, but I would really like to see CUSA get national attention for beating a P5 @ home.

Army brought 16-18k to Dallas to play Tech in a regular season game. I think the crowd would be similar for UNT with Fort Sill and Fort Hood two huge Army bases within short driving distance. I would like for Tech to sign Air Force for a game. The interest would be huge with Barksdale in Bossier, much more than playing G5 Houston

I think you over estimate how much military guys care about service academy football. I know guys in the Army, Navy, and Air Force and they only care about the teams they were fans of before they joined. When we hosted Navy they didn't really have a whole lot of fans despite all the Naval Air Stations around. Created a great interest in San Marcos though, of our 3 sellouts it's the only one that we didn't have alot of help from the visiting teams fans.

What naval air stations are there around San Marcos? The only active naval air stations I've found in Texas are in Corpus Christi and Kingsville, which are 2 1/2 hours away. I do agree with you though on the lukewarm interest among our soldiers in service academy athletics. They're really only interested when the service academies play each other. After all, it's not like most of our service men and women actually attended those schools.

I guaranteed the reason for the sellout was because of Navy, and the many veterans in the area. Not only current military but the millions of veterans, that is the big draw of a service academy.
Same when Army played Tech and they brought 18k to a regular season game. And when Tech played Navy in Ft Worth and there were thousands of veterans there at the game.

You're right. I had a brain fart and didn't take retired military into account.

I know but if my team was within 5 or 6 hours I'd drive to see them. But like I said most of those people that are stationed don't care.

Yea, I know the reason for the sellout was because we played Navy. But I don't remember them bringing a lot of people, but they were a name opponent that our people wanted to see. So our people showed up.

I don't know about Army-Tech, but the Tech-Navy game had a lot of veterans because they were able to get free tickets to the game.

I would think that based on their recent success, playing Houston would be more exciting to a Texas G5 fanbase than Army, especially when you've played Army multiple times recently and in the near future.

You don't know that either, many Veterans would have shown up anyway without the free tickets. Even with the free tickets, there are a plethora of things to do DFW and spend money on(concession money) It's good we treat our Veterans right.

Houston and UNT will have a good crowd but the Texas G5 fanbase is minuscule compare to the P5. When the P5 are playing at the same time, mostly fans of Houston and UNT will show up. And that's where an Army game has the definitive edge, the chance to showcase UNT in front of potential students or fans not connected to UNT is much greater.

The UH vs Texas St crowd set a record for Bobcat Stadium. By definition, that means the attendance was higher than the Navy vs Texas St crowd in the same venue. It was also higher than the Texas Tech game at Bobcat Stadium. That said, all 3 were sellouts and the numbers only differ by a handful.

In short, N Texas will sell plenty of tickets to the game. Not sure why you are attacking the N Texas scheduling, perhaps you should worry more about LaTech scheduling. The Bulldogs have a home game vs Miss St and one vs Baylor---but most are against Southern, S Alabama, UMass types (and some years they only have 5 home dates). Bottom line is G5's everywhere have a tough time getting good draws to come to the smaller G5 stadiums. Often it takes a 2-for-1 to get a P5...which leads to having just 5 home games some seasons, which is undesirable (especially if you just built a new stadium).

I'm glad we have a series with Houston, but is it worth dropping Army and adding Liberty? Not right now. Our AD has said these series are just part of a larger reshaping of our long term schedule, and I have it on good authority that we will be announcing another schedule change soon. If this next series is against the team I'm thinking of, then dropping Army for the overall outcome will be well worth it.

By the way I'm spending The Weekend here at Denton. Lovely place. It seems there is a lot of construction going on around the university. I'm staying at the holiday inn. There is lots of places to eat on university st. Everything seems new around here. Any good places to grab a drink? Preferably a place that will show the boxing ppv fight. I'll be here until tomorrow afternoon.

I'm staying at the holiday inn. There is lots of places to eat on university st. Everything seems new around here. Any good places to grab a drink? Preferably a place that will show the boxing ppv fight. I'll be here until tomorrow afternoon.

Glad you are enjoying your stay in Denton. The college bar scene in over off of Fry street, by the university. It's summer right now, so it should be a little slower out there. In my opinion, there are no great local eating places in Denton other then the Old West Cafe, but they don't open for dinner. You can grab some great breakfast there in the morning. It gets packed early. So you need to get there by 7am. Have fun.

go to the square...plenty of bars around that are fabulous...east side, oak street, loop hole, hooligans...no tv at oak street...not sure if others will be showing fight...would think maybe hooligans.
