RE: Was the Women's Soccer Coach Fired?
Interesting. It looks like it, but I can't find any word of it other than this posting.

So, yes, he has been let go.
How about this guy as a replacement?

I wish that the team would recruit more players (or any players) from the state of Alabama.
Of course winning is important, but that hadn't been happening either.

The quality of soccer in Alabama lags well behind that in the surrounding states. That isn't to say their aren't good players in Alabama, just the pool is much smaller.

The B'ham NEWS or al.com had an All State Soccer Team. I don't recall that it was on the Page one of their Sports Section. Where did those players (supposedly the best in Alabama) - who were seniors who received scholarship offers- sign to go to college?

Troy, North Alabama, Alabama, etc.
Looks like you could sign some over the mountain players at UAB.
& I would agree that the numbers aren't there as much as surrounding states.
It would also build some interest in the program having local players.

Yep. And those lists are pretty political.

I can see that being the case.
Some of the Shelby County & over the mountain clubs are quite competitive for joining. You have things going on even at the high school level.
North of town you see more drop off in club influence once you get to the high school level. We struggle to field a team in every age group.
Gardendale has a few teams in some of the younger age groups but even they seem to have only 1 team at U12 & beyond.
We have played against clubs from the likes of Vestavia, Hoover, Mountain Brook, BUSA (280), Alabaster, Trussville, etc.
The high school I am zoned for has to play some teams from Cullman & surrounding areas because schools in the football region like Hayden do not field a soccer team or have a youth soccer program.

If you aren't playing club soccer in this state at the high school level, I doubt you have any shot at making a d1 roster. There are huge tournaments in the state for club, and colleges can scout numerous players in one spot during these. That's much more difficult to do during high school games and tournaments.(not to mention the high school games are 80 minutes) I'm sure the best players north of the city wind up playing club ball in Hoover and vestavia.(I also think soccer still has the six or seven man rule, where only that amount of players can be on the same club and school team)

Trussville has a great club. A few of our teams won state competition at the competitive level and will be competing this summer in Tulsa for regionals. UAB has great influence on our club. Matter of fact, an assistant for UAB coaches my son's team and we are headed for regionals this summer.

I'm sure they do. I wasn't trying to take anything away from any area with a club team, merely just pointing out the best players would likely travel to play club ball.

Absolutely... I was really agreeing with you and using Trussville as an example.

That isn't totally true. The newest way to recruit is through ID camps. College coaches see or hear about a great player, and they invite them to their ID camp so they can see the kid in person and the kid can see the school. Then, offers are made.
There are exceptions to this rule, but the ID Camps are the new ways of business.
That's not to say coaches don't go to high school and club events to recruit. They certainly do.

I get that, but I'm just saying that recruiting in soccer is changing. There's an element of high school recruiting (probably moreso in boys soccer), an element of club recruiting (mainly at showcases where colleges can see many prospects all at one event), and now the most convenient way - an in-person ID camp regardless of whether the player plays high school, club, or both.
