We gonna take away Dean's title b/c of MJ?
How about Boeheim b/c of Melo?
Jeebus
In the 13 years after MJ left, Smith had 4 Sweet 16s, 2 Elite Eights, 3 Final Fours and 1 NCAA title. And made the tourney every year.
Boeheim had an extremely good resume before and after Melo. In his first five years after 'Melo, Boeheim had a similar post-Wade, Crean record of 1 S16, 2 NITs and 2 NCAA tournament appearaces. Alas, Boeheim had made the Final Four before Melo.
Crean had 5 seasons at Marquette post-Wade:
He NEVER got to a Sweet Sixteen at Marquette, post-Wade.
In his 5 post-Wade seasons: 2 NITs, 3 NCAAs tourneys, with a grand total of 1 post-Wade, Big Dance win. Or a 1-3 post-Wade NCAA tourney record at Marquette.
My point is this: Crean is a guy with great timing and above-average coaching skills. I very much think Indiana was right in canning him.
