24-6 overall record....15-3 conference record.... 2nd place regular season finish....won all the games in conference we were supposed to win ( I know we were favored at home against WKU and Middle Tenn. but they were toss up games )...only bad loss was W&M Last second prayer )....despite a poor schedule...with the recruiting class we have coming in..expect JJ to stick around at least 2 more years....faster pace of play this year...better shooters...JJ seems to have mellowed a little as far as berating his players...WTF..let's watch and see how next year unfolds..I think he deserves it.

I agree. The fire JJ crowd makes some points but I'm not there yet. We haven't come up with many big wins and we haven't made it back to the tourney. If we continue to be close but no cigar then we'll have a problem. We don't want to settle. But I want to see what happens the next couple years. With the pieces coming back and the pieces coming in I think we're in pretty good shape.

If we have an early CUSAT exit.... then yes, let's bring these threads back up and take action.

until then, everyone be a freaking monarch fan for the week. we need the current staff to accomplish this.

Agree and very reasonable request. I will not criticize JJ again unless and until we lose in Frisco.

He's should be safe. Apparently tournament appearances don't matter and he has improved his program to the point that they own a phenomenal Jeff Jones coached ODU program.

I honestly can't believe this thread. We're damn lucky to have a coach the caliber of Jeff Jones. I only hope he doesn't read this message board. To publicly air this disgusting display of dirty laundry on the eve of the conference tournament absolutely blows my mind. I swear, if I didn't know better, I would believe some people are trying to sew dissension among Monarch team mates in order to prove their points. Hoping yes hoping for an early exit in order to say "see we were right." Absolutely disgusting.

You really think a man making over a quarter million a year gives two flips about some sports forum posts?

Simple question that nobody is willing to answer. How long do we wait for a tournament bid?

At this time of year, all monarch fans should come together in support of the team and the coach. When the season is over gives plenty of time to discuss the future.

Who? Posters on this board aren't willing to answer? That's highly unlikely as that's all we do is share our opinions. That's a subjective idea.

Are you looking for something formal or consensus from peers to rationalize your unhappiness with the program?

I'm looking for someone. One person to have an actual, reasonable discussion about the elephant in the room.

Year in and year out most people on this board say next year it is tournament or bust. Then they get impressed by a recruiting class almost none of us has ever seen play one second of basketball or 24 wins against the 270 something rated schedule in the nation, and change their tune to "we have to give him more time.

I am tired of purgatory. Of course I am rooting for the team. Why the hell else would I have gone to every home game this season? I refuse to lower my expectations because some people don't agree with me. I would just like it if people would contribute to the discussion when they post rather than just complaining about the opinions of others.

So what is the answer? How long do we wait? Or do we just sit here year after year making excuses and pinning our hopes on something magical happening next year, just riding it out until we win fewer that 20 games so there is no plausible excuse to keep waiting?

People continually say you don't fire a coach when they win 20 games, well we already broke the mold by hiring a coach that won 10 games the year before we brought him on board. Seriously though, has that ever happened before?

... And we are in a thread about firing a coach. Those who don't want to be a part of that discussion have a very clear warning as to exactly what they are stepping into when they click the link.

Coach K! Well, he only won 9 games the year before Duke hired him.

RE: The official Jeff jones hot seat thread
I agree with your last line. You have your opinion on things and a level of expectations. Others don't share in those opinions exactly. Cool. Nobody is making anyone raise or lower their personal expectations of where the program should be. My issue is that it feels like every thread turns into it. If the pro-fire Jones folks want to stay on topic in this thread have at it. If the give em another year folks want to stay and hash that out. cool. But it bleeds over into other discussions. To make matters worse some like to poke at each other and draw it out. There's just this climate of toxicity on the board right now around this idea of program expectations and we can't get past it. I think that's where a lot of the snarky sarcasm to this topic comes from. The serenity prayer comes to mind for me.

Look, I'm all for keeping things wide open. It's a internet forum. They're a great resource for sharing information, debating ideas, etc. I don't want this place to be a echo chamber of kumbaya and cupcakes for everyone but at some point we gotta all agree to disagree on some topics. Or, like you said. Don't go into a thread titled "Fire Jones" unless you want to try and change someones mind.

So, that being said. He ain't going anywhere. Ask uncle Jeff to pass the gravy. =]

quick edit: we, as a group, need to challenge ourselves not to call someone's idea stupid and convincing ourselves that's different than calling the person stupid. It's nit picky but it doesn't exactly help to convince someone of your argument. Let's all talk to each other like we would over dinner... while Jones passes the gravy. Because he's coming to thx giving dinner. Uninvited. And there is nothing you can do about it.

If it wasn't obvious that last bit was terrible humor to lighten the tone.

Why was this thread resurrected?

If Coach Jones is on any seat, he's on this one,
