RE: Football Recruiting: 2018
OK. I was wondering why a 3 star would still be available now so thought it might be a mistake. Your explanation makes sense and you are right. Could turn out to be a real steal. Redshirt him next year? give him a chance to really strengthen? Or do you even need to redshirt walk ons?

Walkons have the same 4 years of eligibility in 5 years. So even though they are not on scholarship yet, 2018 will still count towards their 4/5. So if he redshirts but earns a scholarship he'll still be eligible for 4 years and get a scholie for all 4 years.

#18 in the Top50 of Hampton Roads per Pilot
.8075 three-star with offers from ODU, Xemple, and Rutgers (per 247)
ODU does indeed red shirt walk-ons

Correct, on his Twitter profile, he say he's a kicker and punter.

Small correction here -- 247sports shows interest from ODU, Temple and Rutgers, but no offers. Everyone must be pretty concerned about his injury. Hopefully our interest in him as a walkon will indeed pay dividends. Best wishes to him.

Todays paper said he was #8, not 18. Now I don't know which is correct.

Aggie is correct, my bad. I thought the dashes were checks. I may need stronger lenses.
However, the new Pilot article is wrong. My lenses aren't THAT bad.

Lol at the second school's name. You all going to force him to alter his settings to "emple".

People who want to argue about which recruiting class is better than whose is just playing an internet keyboard war. Some do, and if that's your cup of tea, more power to you. I personally put more stock into results on the field, more specifically the Wins category. That's all that matters.

I think people tend to take more issue with where we end up compared to the rest of our conference/g5. Not necessarily just stars. The problem is consistently being at or near the bottom of our conference. Just my take. But again, none of that carries any weight if the ratings are bogus. I can re call a few instances where they dropped a guys rating because he signed with us over some p5 school.

Exactly right. I believe Oldtimer found evidence of this happening after a recruit committed to us or a G5 instead of a P5, and his rating subsequently went down. From that moment on, I put ZERO stock into recruit rankings.

I put no stock in recruit rankings of high school players. Our first 3 star signee in 2008 QB Reamon never saw the field at that position and the rise of an unknown unranked QB TH should make everybody a non believer in these recruiting sites.

Happens all the time.............. and not just at ODU. Many recruits, before they commit to a G5 will have a have a higher rating before the commitment to a non P5 School. Yet, once they commit to a G5.......well it is not uncommon to see it drop. The opposite happens as well. A G5 recruit that flips to a P5 School will have a sudden increase in their rating after the flip.
it will never be a even playing field and the finish line will constantly be moved to support an agenda the media and the Power conference feel they must have to continue to skew and guarantee that they are King of the hill. That is just the way it will be in the new era of the NCAA, Power Conferences we are God System.
