How do you know that WVU hasn't already made this offer to Marshall? Are you in the know? Have you been in the meetings?

I can very well see Marshall balking at that idea, as they want more money themselves. It is a matter of negotiations, both teams are talking, I think that is a sign that both teams want to play the game. Hopefully both sides can come to an agreement that benefits both schools.

Let me know when you can survive without a penny from every can of pop sold throughout the entire state and no other university gets to share it. It isn't the money. WVU receives more money from the state than Marshall does. That is a fact. They just move it around different. We just allocate ours into athletics. They do not but the same money is given by the state. Except of course for the pop tax. That is free money that is exclusively WVU's.

BTW the one and one deal has been offered in the past with all ticket sales staying home. Pastilong threw it out along with every other offer, including a 3 for 1 two years ago with a $400,000 payout for the one to WVU. Answer? No!

We have come up with creative solutions to settle the money argument to no avail. They don't care about the money. THey care about possibly losing one or more to us and want to stackj the deck instead of having faith in their team.

What I find humeous is the fact that by starting in Morgantown , then to Huntington , then back to Morgantown is being considered 2-1 to begin with , if a contract has to be signed in order to make this thing happen then it is giving someone an option to buy out at some point unless there is a stipulation that prohibits it from happening. Say the series starts in Morgantown, then to Htown then back to Morgantown then back to Htown, whats that a 2 for 2. The issue is to get the game back on the schedule, rotating will at some point in the beginning (after 3 games ) give WVU a 2 for 1 situation , so whats the big deal , as long as its not refered to in that manner then its a rotating game.

Too many are getting caught up in the 2 for 1 or whatever instead of getting the game on the schedule and thus becoming like the States of GA, VA NC SC FL MI TX OK AZ CA etc where the two largest schools in the state annually play each other in football. Isnt that the main idea, to get the game scheduled.

Here is a perfect example of how this works in South Carolina, the game between Carolina and Clemson is basically a verbal agreement between the major university and the farm school, works quite well , the concessions are minimal and this has worked out year after year, are we playing this season after the brawl in last years game, sure are without hesitation.

Quote:The Mountaineers' athletic department, for the most part, is self-supporting. Marshall, on the other hand, operates its athletic department mainly with major state funding.

WVU actually would realize less profit from playing Marshall than it would Mississippi State, a future foe, or almost any other non-conference opponent.

The Thundering Herd is asking for a considerably bigger payoff for playing in Morgantown than WVU is offering schools from other conferences.

Of course Mickey the WVU shill Furfari never makes a slip of the keboard.

Too bad it has been pointed out in print that Marshall uses just under $1.5 million dollars from their general revenue budget for their $16 million athletic department budget.

For the most part?

Not by a long shot pallie.

First it was "We don't visit MAC schools" Now we aren't in the MAC
Then it was "we get no recruiting advantange there", but of course, you don't recruit North Carolina either but you've been playing ECU for 20 years.
Then it was "Your stadium is too small", but then you played non-conference games at Cincinnati (smaller) and have played at ECU when it was smaller than our current configuration.
And it all comes back to being self-sufficient. The last ditch excuse that is always loaded in the back of the ammo pile.

You want Marshall to be more self-sufficient, but you want the Herd to take it in the a$$ financially to play WVU.
You say WVU is self sufficient, but you want to rob a government funded institution for a big payday.

How about just play the game on decent terms.
You want a 3-for-1, double the payout.
You want a 2-for-1, we'll take the normal $250,000.

You say you can pay us the same as what other like schools get paid, we say go ahead, and we'll play someone else who pays us what we're worth, AND gives us home games.

You can stick to your excuse loaded agenda, and we'll continue to build relationships with people who also think you are a small time operation and continue to build a presence on the national scene to the point where not only don't we want to play you, but if we do, you'll be getting a 2-for-1 from us. Two in our house.

C Ya at the Tire Bowl champ.

Wrong. Thats an outright lie. Lets break this down for you. WVU and Miss. St. sign a 1-1 with both teams payout at $200,000. We will say the game in Morgantown draws 60K even though average attendance for WVU has been in the 50s the last several years but we will give you 60K anyway. At an average ticket price of lets say $30, WVU would make 1,800,000 minus the $200,000 payout to Miss St thats 1.6 mil. Lets say Marshall and WVU sign the same 1-1 agreement with $200,000 payout and Marshall draws 65K in Morgantown. WVU would make 1,950,000 minus the $200,000 payout and WVU pockets 1.75 million. Thats more money just on ticket sales alone. We are not even getting to the fact with more attendance more concession money would be made for WVU not to mention merchandise sales or the fact travel costs are greatly reduced when WVU makes the trip to Huntington. The fact is there are very few teams out there that can outdraw Marshall in Morgantown as your attendance since 1997 has shown. You and your AD can make up every excuse you want but the facts speak for themselves and everyone knows your school is full of it

Quote:Great point if our stadium could still hold 65-70k.

Dude stop smoking crack. The renovations at Mountaineer Field were just done before the start of last years season. What about all those other years since the 1997 game? The fact is in all that time Ohio State is the only school to have a bigger attendance than Marshall did in Morgantown and that was with WVU cutting off the ticket sales in the Marshall game. Had it not been for WVU stopping ticket sales the Marshall game would have been even bigger. Try pulling your BS somewhere else. The facts dont lie. Miss. St will make more money?? LOL yeah right Lets see the figures how that works?
