Love it when any of our Monarch teams beat the big Power 5 schools in any sport. ODU Women's tennis has been trending up for a while now, and it's cool to follow this team.

Our ladies finished as the national runner up after winning the opening set, but dropping the 2nd and 3rd sets. Phenomenal performance by both ladies in this tournament.

This accomplishment bodes well for the regular season. Coach Dom keeps raising the bar.

RE: ODU Tennis

ODU just won the singles and doubles at this ITA super regional. Of course both finals were won on walkover, but they had to get to the final to win it. Really nice way to cap off our first ITA super regional event as hosts.

That's fantastic. Yeah you got to be in it to win it and they did just that. Great Job.

Congrats and well done ODU. The Super Regional was hosted at ODU, I stop by after the ODUVB game. It was cool seeing so many different schools on the campus, actually talked to the Liberty Coach. Schools Included: James Madison, Liberty, Navy, Old Dominion, Penn State, Radford, Temple, VCU, Virginia Tech, William & Mary and Virginia.

RE: ODU Tennis
Our phenomenal women's doubles tandem took home the doubles title at the ITA Atlantic Super Regional in Charlottesville this weekend as well!

Quote:CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Yuliia Starodubtseva and Tatsiana Sasnouskaya of the Old Dominion women's tennis team won the doubles title at the ITA Atlantic Super Regional held at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar's Head Resort. Starodubtseva/Sasnouskaya will next compete in the ITA National Fall Championships, which will be held on November 4-7 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.

Coming off a runner-up finish at the ITA All-American Championships, No. 57 nationally ranked Starodubtseva/Sasnouskaya won their first three matches to advance to the regional title match against Virginia's Melodie Collard/Hibah Shaikh. In the regional final, Starodubtseva/Sasnouskaya rallied to victory after dropping the first set (6-7(7), 7-6(5), 10-4).

RE: ODU Tennis
This is one of the best doubles tandems that we've had in recent memory. These ladies are truly phenomenal players. Sad that Yuliia is a senior this year.

Quote:SAN DIEGO - Yuliia Starodubtseva and Tatsiana Sasnouskaya won four matches over the weekend and pushed Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty of North Carolina to the brink before falling to the UNC tandem in the ITA Fall Nationals 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 on Sunday.

"I'm overwhelmed with pride," ODU head coach Dominic Manilla said. "We took a devastating at All-Americans in the finals, there is really no other way to put it. The way these women bounced back to win the regional title and to again put themselves in position to win a national title is inspiring. Hats off to our good friends at UNC, they played championship tennis yesterday."

Starodubtseva and Sasnouskaya began the weekend with a 5-7, 6-4, 12-10 win over Mary Lewis and Maja Pietrowicz (MSU).

Starodubsteva and Sasnouskaya next took down Morgan Cross and TatumRice of Arkansas with a 6-2, 7-6 (9) victory to advance to the semifinals.

In the quarterfinals the Monarchs faced another UNC foe in Cameron Morra and Carson Tanguilg, defeating the tandem 6-3, 5-7, 8-6.

In the semifinals Starodubsteva and Sasnouskaya got past the No. 2 seed of the tournament, Tatiana Makarova and Jayci Goldsmith of Texas A&M, 7-6 (4), 1-6, 10-7.

Our Women’s Team, Ranked 30th nationally, knocked off 12th ranked Georgia Tech by a score of 4-3 in the ladies’ first match of the ITA Kickoff in Atlanta. If you aren’t paying attention to our women’s tennis program, then you better start. There is some really good tennis being played right now.

Fun Fact: We currently boast the #3 ranked women’s doubles tandem in the country!
