RE: OT: The Official Video Game Discussion Thread (Smaller Releases Coming!)
Also, if they announce a Fire Emblem console release (which is rumoured) with the NX, I'm going to come back to Nintendo after a decade long hiatus from their consoles. I mean, their games can only get better after the 2015 they had (average Metacritic score was the lowest of the Big 10 Developers).

You are probably only going to FE games on the 3DS.
Not sure how many games you buy a year but Super Mario Maker and Yoshi's Woolly World were great retail 2015 games IMO.
Smash and MK8 were pretty solid 2014.

With the sales figures from Awakening and how everything looks for the Western.release if Fates, I'm holding out hope they'll jump back into the home console market, the PoR/RD set of games was flawless in its time and got me into buying every other FE game. I'm not a fan of the psuedo-season pass bullsh*t that they're pulling with the Fates release, but it is what it is.
I can't justify buying a WiiU with the NX on the horizon even with how much I enjoyed MK8 and Smash, with that being said Super Mario Maker just felt like a lot of money to what amounts to a playable environmental dev kit, I love watching it, but I don't think I'd enjoy playing it. I'm more than happy to buy back into Nintendo if they move towards a more accessible console with better specs and whatnot, I just cannot go for a WiiU this late in their cycle.

I really hope the NX is indeed a console and a powerful one. Nintendo has been the 2nd string platform for years and only for the exclusives for several players.
The biggest issue for Nintendo will be the support from the third-party studios in the West this generation. Let's see how the new presidents will position the company...

SMM is better now with the Event Courses and better ways to search for your better level creators. Its a blast to play. I love creating levels but the November-December time frame really took me out of having time to create levels. There is so much you can do and experience in it though. Granted, watching levels is just as fun.
I do agree that with the looming NX release getting a WiiU not could be a tough sell unless you get a steal on it and nothing has been said yet about any backwards compatibility between GC, Wii, WiiU software.

TRU had a B1G150% off on amiibos.... I broke and scored a Lucas and a Kicks. I held out yesterday when it was only 40%....but that 50% today was the clincher to seal the deal.
That said, I hate playing Ness/Lucas users.... and I personally hat their fighting styles so I don't play them.

If you like puzzle games, The Witness is absolutely fantastic. I'm at a conference for work and I've put around 3 hours into it in the downtime before proceedings here.
Also, SEGA just announced that the Valkyria Chronicles PS4 Remaster is coming to the West. Great game, cool art style, and a unique take on the RTS genre. I loved it for the PS3, I'll probably buy it again as it's only $30 and I have no PS3 anymore.

The game released here with all the eReader levels included of which 1) if you didn't live in Japan you couldn't get them all, and 2) here in NA you would have had to buy the ereader and all the cards to get those bonus levels. Can't wait to play the extras as I have played SMB3 quite a lot since I got it back in the day when it came out on the NES.
I also downloaded a puzzle game called BoxBoy that is pretty cool in its simplicity, its level design, and its puzzle solving mechanics.
