2016/17 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Starting early and getting it pinned. I asked the moderator to unpin the 2014 thread I started.

This thread also has some 2018/9 recruiting before a new thread was created.

RE: 2016 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Adding Darryl Bingham who we and a number of Div I recruited for the 2014 class. Darryl a 6'6 forward is now a freshman at Mott Community College and putting up some solid numbers. I believe Darryl went to Detroit Southeastern.

Feel free to add or correct.

I'm going through a subscription MI recruiting service and looking at their 2016 rankings.

Turner seems to go B1G or equivalent (based on his ranking, one of the top recruits of the 2016 class).

Groce is possible as a mid-major plus or possibly B1G recruit. He is very highly rated.

Hayes seems to be a MAC-level recruit.

Martin seems hard to peg. I believe he has talent but doesn't seem tall enough to play in the front court. Also plays FB, I think I read.

One reason I don't go much into recruiting years in advance is that most schools will make offers to kids they have NO chance to get. I remember when EMU was recruiting the kid from Ypsi (Jaylen Johnson) who went to Louisville. It was nice, but quite frankly I think Spike Albrecht had a better chance to get a verbal commit from Kate Upton (following his Tweet to her after the NC game) than us to get a commit from a kid sitting on an offer from L'ville. The best a school can hope is that IF the kid decides to transfer that he will give a school like EMU another look.

BTW, talk about sitting: Jaylen is sitting at L'ville. And I just read in the Blue Ribbon Yearbook that he got cleared in late August by the NCAA and was unable to do summer practices. Way behind. He's sitting at L'ville: 80 minutes of playing time this year.

Kids have real choices to make based on playing time and their academic fit to a school.

Groce has about 20 offers. That will be a hard one for EMU to get.

One service has both Turner and Groce in their top half dozen.

That means both will probably have multiple high major offers.

This is Ypsi/Lincoln. Believe it is for 2016, not 2015. Right? No 2015 unsigned prospects?

2015 JUCO or D2 prospect per this recruiting service.
It's official, Chris King (Hoover) is All-State and still available. To give you perspective, the others are; Luke McDonnell 6-10 (UNI commit), Cortez Seales 6-4 (North Dakota commit), Michael Jacobson 6-8 (Nebraska commit) and Daniel Tillo 6-4 (uncommitted).

I know we don't "need" a PG but I would take a flyer on King, have him for 4 or 5 years--can redshirt him if there's a logjam, he really is worthy. Also, Daniel Tillo is a 3-time all-stater and has scored over 2,000 points. Another kid who jumps off the page is Ames star Javan White, a 6-8 F-C from an outstanding high school. Chris Creighton is familiar with all these kid's programs, maybe he can lend a hand. They play damn good
basketball in Iowa.

If you look at UNI's roster (30-3) it is comprised almost exclusively of local Iowa kids.

Nothing particularly important (for us, us the fans) but the spring evaluation period I believe starts this weekend. Lot of AAU action at places like Hampton, Va., Lexington, KY, etc. etc. I assume that the coaching staff will divide up the tourneys and try to cover a number of them.

Want to throw Darryl Bingham who will be a sophomore at Mott and whom we offered right out of high school Detroit Southeastern.

Also you would think that perhaps Leo Edwards may be enrolling in a local JUCO. We'll see.

http://www.latechsports.com/sports/m-bas...52523.html

Edwards redshirted at La Tech and played one season.

He could go JUCO but if he has almost all of his frosh/soph academics completed not sure that would work out (just transfer two academic years and 'waste' the rest?). That would give have two seasons of collegiate ball (La Tech/JUCO).

IF he transferred to EMU, he would sit a year and have two years to play two years.

I couldn't find frosh stats for Bingham or Mott CC (strange).

Bigham has GREAT stats for a frosh but would be a bit short for a PF. He did not attempt a single trey.

Interesting recruit!!
