Where did you see that? That would be interesting for sure.

Hey 35- "Point guard Tre Evans was also in the 2016 class but said he wanted to stay closer to his home in Oklahoma. He's headed to Kilgore Junior College in Texas." Its in the link I just posted an hour or so ago .

Thanks Mac. I was aware the we had him signed and then released him. I just didn't figure that we would lose him to a Jr. College. Apparently he has hopes of something bigger in two years.
During the late signing period, we lost two players and got two walk-ons. Not a good ending to a promising recruiting period. I'll guess we'll see what happens over the next few weeks, but it would be nice to field a complete team in '16-'17.

Travis Fields may be a one year walk-on (then 3 years on scholly) but he is no walk on talent wise. I bet he sees a fair amount of playing time next season based on all I have read about him. Multiple Virginia player of the year winner. No offense, but he is no Martin Shaw. Fields being a walk on for one year gives us an opening for this coming year should we find the right fit. I like the sound of our new coach. And especially when he mentions international connections.
We seem to be quite well situated for next season.

Could be. We still have 4 scholarships to fill now if I'm not mistaken. Maybe Fields gets one of those.
Last season, we played will two open scholarships and 3 walk-ons. As a result, depth killed us. I don't know at this point, if we any deeper overall, though we will be bigger.
Any potential good news out there? We need to fill these scholarships with good players.

Not sure depth will be a problem this year, except at the point.
Frontcourt this year: Stith, Taylor, Kah, Trey Porter
Frontcourt last year: Stith, Taylor, Nij, Vassor
Advantage this year
Not to mention that at 6-7, Green and Carver might be able to play a little SF (I don't know, just going by size)
Backcourt last year: Freeman, Bacote, Baker, Caver, Shaw
Backcourt this year: Baker, Caver, Stith, Fields, Haynes
Advantage: last year, though Fields and Haynes are wildcards.
We already knew we would have to have a more balanced offense this year than last year; with that, the overall product might be better.
Add more pieces? Absolutely, and it's likely there will be some possibilities coming up this summer. Judging by some of the schools the South Kent kids signed with, there's gobs of talent up there. I would hope the new coach would help us with 1-2 of them. Minus injury, I'm quietly optimistic about the upcoming season.

If Baker and Caver are both starting over BJ Stith, we're going to have trouble scoring from the perimeter (and we may anyway). We badly need some guards who can shoot. (We needed that last year, and even worse this year.)

The lack of a top notch shooter at ODU for the last 47 years is beyond frustrating.

I'm just naming guys, not in any order. I'm guessing at this point Stith and Caver are your starters. They're not stupid, they know we need backcourt points

Mark Poag was one of the best shooters in NCAA history.. He's not 70 years old either. Petey Sessoms didn't suck either

Kent Bazemore was OK--as was Trey Freeman. Isaiah Hunter scored a few buckets.

Iliadis and Moseley were OK, but we haven't really had a sniper since Poag.
Freeman was a good pull up guy, but not so much from 3. We were one of the worst 3-point shooting teams in the nation last season. So far, I don't see where there is that much improvement this year unless we have a few surprises.

I don't think it would be a surprise if Stith turned out to be a good 3p shooter; for those that believe in that stuff, he was damn near a 4* recruit (3.7 if memory serves, a dangerous concept)

I know Poag and Sessoms and AC Carver and Steve Traxx were good shooters, and Hunter was streaky but pretty good. 47 years was not meant to be an accurate number, just a bit of hyperbole folks. Sheesh

Bj Stith is supposed to be just what some of you guys are asking for. What is with all this doom all of a sudden. We have an outstanding recruiting class, the best in many a year. I'm excited and I think we have a great new assistant too.
