Yea...I think I have to second this, unfortunately.

Yeah I actually thought we were in his top five choices before he committed to Pitt, but I was mistaken. A guy can dream.

He really isn't even a VA kid (he is from Durham but played in VA). I don't think that is an issue with him as his dad was just worried that he wasn't getting the looks from P5 schools as late as the beginning of the summer last year. He played for Team Loaded VA.

On radio this am Travis Fields was talking about the 3 time state champs and his player of the year. Talked about Jones and the coaches had already been talking to him before everything and it just felt right so went with his gut. When they brought up walking on and getting a schollie he responded with "naw, I got a scholarship" for whatever that is worth.

He is not on scholarship. Unless he signs during the late period he isn't going to be either

would grades be the only thing holding back offers? If he gets his grades straight offers should start to roll in right?

I looked up Gerrard Simpkins on Verbal Commits, it looks like High Point is the only offer at this time.

Additional info... http://data.tallahassee.com/recruit/athl...asketball/

Gerrard Simpkins is the #1 Point Guard in VA’s Class of 2016

June 2014
Gerrard Simpkins has transferred into Bishop Sullivan and reclassified to the class of 2016. This weekend at the ODU Team Camp Gerrard showed that he is the best 2016 point guard in the state of Virginia. He led the Bishop Sullivan to an 8-0 record and championship victory against Hampton High School. Simpkins put on a show for Coach Jeff Jones of ODU as he defended every teams best player, forced turnovers, and showed extreme athleticism in transition. Offensively, Simpkins displayed total dominance as he shot the ball well over 50% for the weekend and did so in a number of ways. He knocked down everything from step back jumpers to strong drives through contact. His ball handling skills and an ability to attack the paint, draw help, and find his open teammates for easy buckets were unstoppable. Overall, Gerrard Simpkins was the most valuable player and most impressive prospect.

At this point, most programs will have all their scholarships full for next year, so only someone with a scholarship open could offer him. ODU just happens to be such a program.

Simpkins is an element that ODU was missing last year. It seems like he plays that Russell Westbrook bulldozing type of slasher game. I really don't like that style of play, but it beat us numerous times this season. If you play like that you go to the line 70% of the time.

I haven't seen him hit a single jumpshot in all of his highlight though... I hope he can shoot FTs.

Not much Randy Haynes discussion much on here. Maybe we don't know much about him besides high school numbers or his potential? Anyway he could come in and play point? Personally, I'll settle with him keeping Baker from having huge minutes next year... Having a huge year in JUCO for what its worth.

Randy Haynes had a very good year at New Mexico Junior College.

He played in 27 regular season games and averaged 19 pts per game and averaged 46%. A few other stats are listed below:
27 19.0 46.6
3pt % 37.5
ft % 72.8
reb/g 5.3

I posted this back in early March.

No recommendation either way, just some information. Got a chance to see Simpkins week before last in the semis of the Tidewater Conference tourney against Norfolk Collegiate. Gym was packed and it was a big game. He seemed really hyped, almost to the detriment of his game. He lost the ball multiple times on the dribble. Slashing and scoring at the rim seemed to be his forte, once he got going in the 2nd half. To make it in college, I think someone will need to work on his shooting mechanics. He does something odd with his hand at the top of his shot. He could have good shooting games, but it might be tough being good consistently.

He was athletic, quick, and had a nice variety of finishes at the rim. Think he scored in the mid teens in a loss. That is the only game I've seen him play so admittedly minor sample size. He did score 32 in his next game in the State playoffs, a loss to Benedictine in OT.

If he ends up at ODU I don't see any way he doesn't redshirt his first year. Hoping one of the coaches would improve his shooting mechanics during that time. For what it is worth, my daughter goes to BSCHS and said he's nice and seems like a good kid.

If you want to see Simpkins hit some jumpers watch this video.

WARNING: unless you like the sound of sneakers squeeking on the court turn your volume down.
