Caver is going to be solid, but there are definitely still minutes to be had at the PG spot next year.

Yep. I feel better about him than I did two weeks ago. But we could certainly use an upgrade.

Im not sure I'm looking for an upgrade, but I think a calm, veteran point guard would be a nice move. If he starts, sobeit.

Nothing against Caver, but I'm looking at the starting point guards for Marshall, Charlotte, and Rice (for starters). We could use an upgrade.

I expect you'll see a totally different Caver when Trey is gone. Right now his job is to bring the ball up court and then get the ball to Trey. Things aren't really run through him.

Hes a freshman. Many guys make leaps from freshman to soph. Its not like we are going to find a massive improvement anywhere.

Caver is a really good fit when you have very good SGs and SF. He is perfect for our system and can also get out on the break. He is a very athletic PG.

My impression of Caver is that he is very poised bringing the ball downcourt against pressure, especially for a freshman. I think he can shoot pretty well (he has at times), he does have a nice stroke. He is an excellent distributor, and as others have said he is a very good athlete. It is, I imagine, very difficult to make much of an impression as a freshman pg playing behind a guy like Trey Freeman.
Jeff Jones made it a point to highlight Caver's play and progress in his post-game presser yesterday.
That said, it wouldn't hurt to have another pg in the fold.

Agree and also agree with giles. He's a distributor first type guy. His eyes are always looking for the open guy. He has made some impressive passes so far and if he can get in sync with the Stiths and Talley that could be very dangerous. He has a good stroke so if he tacked on a low volume high % 3 point shot.. get that stat in the 50% but only shoots like 3 or 4 a night you have to respect that and can't leave him open. Defenses would have to respect.

I hope so. Charlotte and Rice also have freshman PGs, though granted, they don't play behind Trey Freeman.

Its also hard to tell what Cavers numbers would be if he played in a system (and didn't have as good of teammates) as those guys and he put up 20 shots per game.

Yeah, I could see Caver being a major asset to this team by scoring 5 ppg and a billion assists per game.

I like that he's making some drives to the basket. He just needs to learn how to get a shot off among the shot blockers.

With his jumping ability and nose for the ball, I could see multiple triple doubles as a junior. He had 6 rebounds yesterday.

on one of the he got (way) up and snagged it from two post players.
if we get a grad transfer PG, he doesn't have to be great. just good. share some of the minutes with Caver. IMO any way.

You are sure right about Caver. That kid can flat sky! Plus he's fast as lightning. Thing is, how would you like to go head to head everyday against Trey Freeman in practice? That will really pay dividends next year and beyond. He will be a fine player for us. But you need backups no matter how good a player you are at your position.

I agree with this. I will say that it would be nice to get on that national stage for Jeremy Sheppard to see. I watched him live last year against Marcus Evans and man was he impressive.
