17-18 year olds have been known to change their minds. Especially after they get to school and the coaches can really sell the benefits of red shirting. Not saying it'll happen, but wouldn't be surprised.

Certainly could, but I think he's too good to redshirt.

Hope he doesn't redshirt. Want to go into next season deep, talented and firing on all cylinders. He will get stronger with time. We just need Green to be a contributor. The one place we could use help is on the wing it seems to me, seems he can play there some or if we need to go really big guard sometimes with BJ Stith and he. Really look forward to the future, we have a lot of unique pieces to the puzzle coming in and this guy is another.

“They’re an upcoming program and I like being an underdog,” Green said about ODU. “It would be cool to go to a bigger school, but they weren’t showing as much interest as ODU. I want to go somewhere I’m wanted. I don’t want to be a piece of the puzzle, I want to go somewhere I can be a big piece of the puzzle.”

“I’m not going to red-shirt,” he said confidently. “I honestly think I’m going to start my freshman year.”
I don't know anything about Green except these quotes. But I hope he doesn't think he can walk in and be BMOC without putting in the work. I don't suspect that. It's just that there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance and those statements are close. But again, know nothing else about him except those statements so I will keep an open mind and see what happens.

I would take a kid that says that over a kid that says "it may take me a years" anyday of the week. Not that there is anything bad about either, but give me the kid with too much confidence.

His words and his game seem to indicate he's exactly the kind of player we need. I love guys who want to be the man. As long as he's willing to put in the work to actually BE the man, I'm all in. He also seemingly plays to get everyone else involved first. If he needs to take over, he's capable. Reminds me a lot of a PG that wears our uni right now in that regard.

That's all I need to hear. If he has a work ethic like Freeman the I'm all in.

I am trying my best to find box scores from the games in which Tre Evans and Xavier Green played last night. Sometimes it seems like HS basketball info is more guarded than State secrets.

Does anyone else have info or ideas on where to look. Thanks.

Thanks. I did try them, but it seem that their idea of a box score is only the point total of each team for the four quarters. I'll keep trying and post any news I can find.

If he can contribute he doesn't redshirt. Redshirting shouldn't be the vision for your number one recruiting target from each class. Not in basketball.

Don't forget that we have Randy Haynes and Aaron Carver next year as well. Obviously, we want our best players on the floor. Is Green going to be one of them?

Speaking of Carver. Seems he's a bit of a mystery. What does JJ redshirting him but dressing him out every game say? If he isn't good enough to contribute this year, will ever be a difference maker or just a bench warmer?

Now more about his game.

He has a smooth jump shot that looks like it will translate to the collegiate level. I think he had somewhere near 15-19 points and it was really quiet. He is not super flashy (I know the layup lines) and looks so in control at all times. Probably could have had near a double double with points and assists if his teammates finished layups and hit some open shots. In the first half he was more off the ball and atlantic shores was playing strictly zone and his teammates were not finding him. In the second half they moved him to the point and he took control and was finding open teammates every time down the floor. Free throws were clean and looks like a 75% free throw shooter. His ball handling is off the charts. He also looks to be a beast of a rebounder for his size.

Weaknesses: He needs to put on weight. That is his only weakness. Could not tell if he was a good defender or not because they pressed the entire game.

We have a superstar in the making. Tre Evans deserves all of the hype he gets but I am telling you that Xavier Green is someone we should all be extremely excited about. MAN WHAT A FREAK ATHLETE!!!! And so polished.

They also have a guard that stands at 6'3 that can absolutely ball. Clevante and I couldn't make out the last name. Should be a target.
It is Clevon Greene. No he is not a target......maybe for Marshall or JUCO.
The only problem with HS players that transition to college that think they will start for day 1, is that the talent level jumps up so much they often don't realize how good others are. Then when they don't get playing time they become trouble makers, they fold and look to transfer under the pressure, or they Start working harder. Many need to realize that it is a process and it just doesn't happen over night.

Xavier Green had 18 points and 11 rebounds yesterday.

I think I remember reading an article about Tre Evans where he said he, too, expects to come in and compete for a starting spot. Specifically, the quote went something like this, "With Freeman graduating, I expect to go in there and be the starting PG."

"...I have a possibility of coming in and starting, and playing a lot my first year."

That doesn't sound overly cocky. I would agree with him that he does have a possibility. I think Green does as well. Both of these guys were legitimate P5 targets.

If we have Evans and Green on the court at the same time, we'll have more than enough ball handlers!
