RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den
This Green cat sounds very interesting. 6'6" but has a point guard handle they say. The word is he's a silky smooth, rail thin, head and eyes always up the court type of player. A facilitator type but with a nice jump shot.
Now the question for you guys. We know we have at least one more slot. Knowing who we have coming in, 8 new players of all types and positions, what type of player would YOU like to see added to the mix. Myself, would love to see a 6'7" type with a shot and a handle. Or, a really great player at any position, from freshman on up to grad type. A friend said we had coaches out in CA recently looking at talent but not sure if that would be for this year or future years.

I know Porter is taller than Brandan Stith, but I bet Stith plays bigger than Porter.
Regardless, that's going to be a high major squad...both height and athleticism wise!

Word I read about Porter is that he is a really, really good shot blocker. Not sure about the offensive end, maybe others could fill in the blanks on that.

I'd like to have a Ochebo type player. Big, beefy with game down low.

Can we get a DeShawn Painter type again, just for 3-4 years instead of just one?

I would take a grad transfer PG.

I would like to see a 3 point specialist. Someone who can stretch the defense and trigger a run all by himself. A guy who is automatic if you leave him open.

I would like a point guard (just in case). If not a PG...I am totally in with you on the sniper. Get a guy that can come off the bench and knock it down at any time.

I'd like a 6'9" freshman PG who can handle the rock and shoot 40% from deep.

I would like an 8'3" point guard that can handle like Pistol Pete, shoot 75% from the half-court line, and dunk 3 pointers.

Sorry. I don't have any eligibility remaining.

I would say ODU could use that 3 point shooter/instant offense guy if I were choosing what to add for next year. A good grad transfer of some sort, or just hold that scholly unless someone comes along that you couldn't pass up. Nice to be able to be choosy again, been a while.

This past Monday on the coaches show Jones talked about Porter and he said Porter is a tremendous rebounder and shot blocker. Alexander asked Jones if he could see Porter and Stith together on the floor. Unfortunately my radio went out about that time but i think he said that Stith needs to work on his footwork on defense if he is to play the 4 but he could see it happening. Maybe someone who heard it better could clarify. Static hit my radio about that time. You could hear a lot of excitement in Jones voice talking about Porter.
He also said BJ Stith plays big for a guard and has more range on his jumper than anyone currently on the team.

JJ said it was unlikely that Stith and Porter would play together in CUSA play as there are too many small line-ups and dangerous stretch-4s and neither player is a chase and close defender.

I hear Colbert is a Keon Carter type with a nice perimeter touch but not a real post banger like Stith or Porter.

Yeah. JJ was brief and rather vague, but said Colbert was more of a spot-up shooter and his skill set was totally different from Porter.

A 6'9 spot up shooter sounds like a nice piece to the puzzle to me.

Throw in a 6'10 spot up shooter in Kah and we have a nice looking team next year.
