False...

Of course. It is absurd to believe that Calapari could be cheating.

Pretty much how I feel yeah...

I frankly don't think he is cheating now at UKy. I don't think he needs to. At UMass and Memphis, perhaps a different story. How does one get blue chips to enroll in those schools every year? Neither program was any better than ODU when Cal arrived.

Good points. I think Memphis had the Keith Lee years before Calipari. But I do agree with your statements.

ODU on par with Memphis (State) prior to Cal, seriously? Do u ever do any research? Memphis has been to 3 Final Fours. They have been National runner up TWICE. 2 of the final fours were prior to Cali as was one of the runner up finishes. So yea I can your point that we r on a par with them prior to Cali.

We have a D-1 team for 38 or 39 seasons. They have 26 NCAA appearances.

ESPN ranks them as the 19th most successful program from 1962-2012. So yea we are on their level prior to Cali!

How can anyone deny his coaching abilities? Sounds like some are discrediting him altogether.

Nobody is denying his coaching abilities. We are questioning his recruiting ethics.

Ok, I looked it up and you are correct. I didn't remember them being in the tournament or even being on the radar before Cal, but they were good in the 80s before I really paid any attention to anyone outside the ACC and had a couple of runs in the 90s that I just honestly don't recall.

Wasn't Memphis taken to great heights in the 80's by former VCU coach J.D. Barnett?

Dana Kirk. . .JD went to Tulsa from VCU and pretty much epic fail:

Dana Kirk, who coached the Memphis State Tigers to a 1985 Final Four appearance that was vacated because of N.C.A.A. violations, died here Monday. He was 74.

His death was confirmed by his family. The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported that the cause was a heart attack.

Kirk was fired after the 1986 season, just before he was indicted for income tax evasion. He served four months in a federal minimum-security prison in Montgomery, Ala.

At about that time, Memphis State was found guilty of violating National Collegiate Athletic Association rules on Kirk’s watch. As a result, the university had to vacate its Final Four appearance. The Tigers were also forced to sit out the 1987 tournament.

Kirk had a 158-58 record in seven years at Memphis State, which is now the University of Memphis. His team was 31-4 when it went to the Final Four.

Big weekend with Ako Adams visiting ODU. This kid can play and Jeff wants him. He is a perfect fit for us. I have a real good feeling about this guy. He is a left handed combo guard. Go Monarchs!!!!!!!!!

Unofficial visit. Anyone know the difference between unofficial and official? Can he meet with coaches this weekend? Is he completely on his own to look around? Obviously, I don't get the difference

Just like an official visit...we can talk to him and do everything we do on an official visit except 2 things:
1)set up his stay / accomodations
2)pay for anything

This is all on his family and his doing. I am sure if he is interested we will bring him back in the fall for a football game and really treat him well.

I've always been curious about that as well. Thanks for the explanation.

Thanks. Lots of competition at lots of different levels for this guy. Read where his dad is deceased, uncle has been a huge influence in his life. I'll take it as a good sign that he's visiting on his own dime.

Also, there is a limit on the number of official visits a kid can make so if they are considering more than a few schools, most of their visits will be unofficial and then followed up with an official visit to the top two or three schools on their lists

Additionally, on an unofficial visit the staff cannot practice a player with the team. While recruits can play with the existing team players the staff cannot participate. Nor are they allowed to formally watch any such games.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den
UR had a huge week last week, getting verbals from De'Monte Buckingham and Nick Sherod. That should be a helluva backcourt in the years to come. I believe we are entering the golden age of MBB in Virginia. UVA, VCU, UR, ODU, NSU, W&M all look to have excellent futures. If VB ever builds that arena, something akin to the old Times-Dispatch holiday tournament with just Virginia teams would seem to be a heads-in-beds natural.
