The ODU staff, along with most coaches and scouts will be out at the BooPlex this weekend. I've always enjoyed myself, top talent, seeing the coaches and scouts eyeing up the talent is a lot of fun.

At the mid major level - VCU and ODU are both mid-major and on the same recruiting level - there is a big grey area between what is a really a 3* and a 4* recruit. People get hung up on the numbers. Same with a 2*-3*. I trust JJ and our coaches and for the first time in years we are competitive in recruiting, at least attempting to get bigger level players. Getting out of the CAA is helping us. Burgess was a 4* recruit at VCU. I've watched the guy for 2 years, he's a solid player but not comparable to the 4* guys playing at the P5 schools.

We would have been extolling thew virtues of BT and staff had Burgess signed with us -- and we were a close #2. The story goes that he wrote a letter or e-mail or something to one of the assistants saying that if his brother hadn't gone to VCU he would have chosen ODU. He liked it that much. Of course, lucky for him . . .

I would have taken Bradford in a second, but Jordan appears to be a shell of his brother, though he was much more highly touted. Maybe he would have been better in a different system outside of 'havoc'.

JJ and Richardson are supposed to go to Dallas this weekend also for the Adidas Gauntlet.

Adidas Gauntlet to support Team Loaded? ODU has a minimum of five offers out to that team which I'm not counting Rivals 150 EJ Sherod. Unless he has an offer as well. I'm sure Shaka will be there working on Javin DeLaurier

Did you mean EJ's kid, Nick? He's been pretty solid this year for St Christopher. I'm surprised ODU hasn't been on him more considering who his dad is, and the ties back to Monarch hoops.

Quote:Clearly aiming high in its 2016 recruiting, Old Dominion has landed a home visit today with one of the top players in the class: power forward Edrice "Bam" Adebayo of Pinetown, N.C.

Adebayo is rated No.8 in the class by ESPN.com.

Clearly landing him is a long shot, but being able to talk our way into his living room is a nice step. ODU has had a good relationship with him, so even it's just a courtesy, it's still nice.

Agreed. He's a high-caliber player and making it to the home visit stage with him speaks volumes about the progress that Jones & co. have made.

Ooops. I put that link on the 2015 recruiting thread. My comments there agree with djinva, At least we're trying to recruit in the bigger pool.

And you have to get in the room before you can land them. We're in the room.

My advice to the staff today:

Som we have an in-home visit with Edrice "Bam" Adebayo, and Verbal Commits doesn't even list us as having offered, or evaluating. Gotta believe that's not right.

Maybe like some other sources we are exposed to on this board, they too don't know everything.

VC goes strictly off of information fed to them or found on twitter. They have some targets no longer on our board and are missing a bunch we are currently pursuing.

A nice resource. Wish I would have been the one to think of it first.

Hey at least the coaches are getting in home visits. They were just in to see Xavier Green recently. These are high quality players they are after. Let's hope they can get that first one and see where it might lead.

If he wants to come to ODU, I think we'll find an offer in there somewhere.

The point was the people who use Verbal Commits -- or any recruiting site -- as gospel as to what we're doing, who we're after and where we are in the process, might want to reconsider the quality of the information.

I am more interested in who we are competing with for a kid. If we can start competing with VCU, WSU, Butler, Temple, Dayton, NIU, etc. and we can win some of those battles, in my mind that will mean that we are growing significantly as a program. What I don't want to see is situations where we are the only D1 offer, or we are competing with Radford on a regular basis. Yes, you can sometimes find some good ones that got overlooked, but in the big picture, the more highly regarded recruits you land, the better opportunity that they pan out in the long run.

I hope you mean UNI, because NIU basketball is really, really bad.

Jones & Co have been in on Xavier Green from Williamsburg Christian Academy for awhile, and saw him yesterday according to Twitter. He's a top priority in the 2016 class and his recruitment is heating up a bit, Cincinnati just offered him.
