I'd consider Bazemore equal to Freeman. Bazemore's defense = Freeman's offense. Offensively, Freeman is the best pure shooter this team has seen in a very long time.
The midrange game of Baze was deadly, even better than Freeman.
Baze is the only ODU player in the last 18 years to shoot above 40 percent from three for an entire season. The next one was Mark Poag.
Baze JR: .481 Two Point FG% .408 Three Point FG %
Freeman JR: .441 Two Point FG% .364 Three Point FG%
I'd say their defense is comparable when all things are taken into account. Baze was going to blow up, be a 20/5/5 player heading into his senior season before blowing out his foot in the 7CitiesProAm.
I couldn't disagree more on the mid range game. Baze likely has a higher 2 point fg% bc he had more dunks/layups. I've never seen an ODU player with a better mid range jumper than Freeman.

Freeman can be flustered into an occasional 6-17 game against taller teams. Baze got that elbow jumper off against anyone. Both are very good, one is in the NBA right now and occasionally starts for the best team in the Eastern Conference.

Bazemore has NBA size and speed and is a very good defender. He shot the 3 ball well, was very good in transition, and could get to the basket and dunk on people.
Freeman is inferior in all these areas to Bazemore. But, I would bet if you could find a field goal percentage in the mid range area, Freeman would be far superior.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den
Tough argument.
Baze's senior season, he was all jump shot, not dunking on anyone while his foot healed. His two point field goal percentage was 45.6 percent on almost all jumpers.
Trey is shooting 48.8 percent this season on two point attempts, mostly jumpers but probably more in the paint than Baze had on one leg as a senior.
Baze's junior season, with more dunks, he shot 50.4 percent from two point field goals. Yes more dunks than Freeman because Trey doesn't dunk but if we were to find a way to strip it all down my guess is they would be comparable on actual 15 foot jump shots.
Trey's looks so good because the rest of the team stands around and watches him, we struggle to score and he's doing it at 6'0 and not 6'5. Plus he's very entertaining, he has lifted us up from the ashes.

I don't think Trey goes 0'fer in a NCAA game or any game.

Baze was not our sole source of offense. I doubt Trey faces a combination of Butler/Brad Stevens and Ronald Nored in the tournament. Brad Stevens conceded Frank Hassell one on one and focused on Baze. Even back then Stevens understood that it was Baze that was the threat.

I wish there were more advanced stats for college basketball bc sometimes your eyes lie. (your/mine/anyones)
The midrange jumper is the most inefficient shot in basketball, yet Freeman seems to make it over 50% of the time. My eyetest tells me there is no one I've ever seen make them like him. He gets almost nothing in transition and rarely drives into the trees.

Bazemore was a much better player overall than Freeman for sure though

They can focus all they want on Trey, he's going to score, that I'm certain. When was the last time Baze had a triple double, when his shot didn't fall.

He didn't have any, we all know this. Mark West was the last one 33 years ago, but we are talking about a midrange jump shot

This site, which is pretty cool, says Trey is making 44.8 percent of his two point jump shots http://hoop-math.com/OldDominion2015.php
It says Baze made 34 percent his senior year so my eyes must have been lying to me. 44.8 for Trey is very good but it is a low yield shot in general but the best we can hope for late in the shot clock

Umm... he vanished in the game against Butler when we were primed to make a deep run.

Thanks, I was sitting practically on the court for that one . He was blanketed by Ronald Nored, the best perimeter defender in college basketball. Yes it was a crap performance but they honed in on him. He wasn't bringing the ball up the floor and forcing stuff.

Baze was a better all around player that Trey, there isn't even an argument. Trey is more important to his team though.

I was addressing your knock on Trey being flustered into a 6-17 game. My point is: Bazemore could get flustered too. Any notion to the contrary is silliness. And, as I pointed out, Baze could be flustered worse than 6 FG from the floor.

Baze did choke in that game. Doubt Trey would ever dribble off his foot with the game on the line

They are both freaking awesome and I long for the day we can talk about one ODU player without tearing down the one we are comparing them to.
