What's the story with Stith? He was a pretty solid tree when we got him, and I hear rumors that he's added a lot more strength during this year he's sitting out. He may not be particularly tall, but he doesn't sound like the kind of guy who will be pushed around in the paint. Anybody got an update on his progress?

We definitely need more heft down low. Technique and skill are great, but in this league a couple of mountains underneath would make us a lot more competitive. Having said that, Danzel Taylor has been awesome for us this year. Wish he were just a tad bigger.

He coaching staff really lights up when they talk about Stith. Say he's the best rebounder on the team, Ross and Denzel can't keep him off the glass. He has put on some muscle, about the same height as Denzel, has more offense in his game. Denzel better court vision and passer.

Definitely not the best rebounder on the team. Jones has said several times that Taylor is the best offensive rebounder in the whole damn league.

Taylor is the best offensive rebounder in the league, but he's not the best defensive rebounder in the league and not the best defensive rebounder on his team (he's far down the list in defensive rebounding)

I don't have an opinion on Stith either way, but he certainly could be the best rebounder overall on the team.

Stith was one of the best rebounders in the nation at ECU as a freshman.

For being a freshman big, I was pretty impressed with Stith when we played against him last year. Obviously, he had some work, but November will be 2 years later. I think he will be a good one for us... a solid 3-year starter and producer.

Lucky for us with Stith and Taylor in there at the same time that won't leave a lot of rebounds for the other team.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den
Using Stiths numbers from ECU, he would be our 2nd best rebounder behind Douglas (obv Douglas has sample size issue with only 100 mins played)

ORB%
Taylor 17.5%
Stith 15.8%
Douglas 12.6%
Biberaj 10.6%
Arledge 10.5%
Ross 9.1%

Def Reb%
Douglas 28.4%
Stith 21.5%
Ebondo (49 mins) 20.4%
Arledge 19.8%
Ross 17.1%
Taylor 12.9%

Overall:
Douglas 20.2%
Stith 18.7%
Taylor 15.3%
Arledge 15.0%
Ross 12.9%

Never did I say he wasn't a good rebounder. Let me just put that out there. Some of you (not you but clearly you can see others) tend to relate a disagreement in opinions as an automatic downgrade of a player. Not the case.

But one of the best rebounders in the nation as a freshman? Come on man. He didn't even rank in the top 100. Hell, he ranked 18th in CUSA.

But, if you look at Stith's rebound % (the % of rebounds he collects when he's in the game), he led the conference in Offensive reb % (12th nationally) and was 8th in defensive rebound percentage (136th nationally). That's pretty good for a freshman.

"Coach", the poster, had a stat posted somewhere once about Stith. It was some kind of rebound per mins played stat and that's where Stith was listed as one of the tops. Coach, do you still have that somewhere?

Edit.
Dang Coach!!!

Just saying what was told by the HC, little over a week ago. Take or leave doesn't matter to me. Remember a guy sitting out for the year, is not on the team. The only thing he can do is practice and work out.

And, FWIW, he was 21st in the nation in rebounds per minute and 18th nationally in overall rebound percentage.

You need to look at the context of the stats you are looking at.

What we need are kids who can score the ball. Great rebounding isn't enough.

^This. We need a few guys like Ronnie Valentine, Petty Sessoms, and Odell Hodge. I'm not asking for much.

I'm not into fantasizing about per 40 minute stats and per minute stats like some of you. It has been stated before and I'll say it again: they are useless. A player playing fewer minutes can bust their ass for several 5 minute spurts a game (like Stith at 19.5 mpg) and their numbers are obviously going to look better compared to a guy playing 35+ minutes in those categories.

Again, never did I say he wasn't a good or solid rebounder. But calling him one of the "best" rebounders in the nation is an absolute stretch and that's why I called BS.

Thats the last I'll say about that. If you want to discuss more you can pm me. But lets get back to recruiting as this seems to have sidetracked the thread.
