Grand Magus - a hard rockin' trio from Sweeden (but with normal vocals, not any of that Cookie Monster vocals).

Question RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
Quote:Tony Lewis, lead singer of The Outfield, dead at 62.

Gee whiz. Didn't know he was that old, but still....

This album (their third, I believe) was very good also...here's a cool song from it:

Artist: The Outfield
Album: Voices Of Babylon
Song: "Voices Of Babylon"
March 28, 1989 Columbia Records

They had an unusual experience for a British band in that they enjoyed commercial success in the US, but never in their homeland of England. For the group's third album, 1989's Voices of Babylon, a new producer (David Kahne) and sound was evident. The title track was a Top 25 single and hit #2 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart . The follow-up song, "My Paradise", was a mid-sized album-rock hit reaching #34 in the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart but overall the group's popularity continued to decline. On July 9, 2014, original guitarist John Spinks died of liver cancer. He was 60 years old. On October 20, 2020, original founding singer Tony Lewis died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home near London.

the Outfield post reminded me of another little-known gem from same era: yeah, that's Sting on BGVox:

February 1985 EMI Records

This one is for my wife's sister who recently lost her battle with cancer. She was and art glass dealer in Zurich who loved the arts and particularly music. She had seen Diana Krall in concert a few times and loved her music. She visited a few years ago and my play list popped up this song by Diana. She immediately asked me if that was Diana Krall. She was surprised she had never heard that song by her. It soon became one of her favorites.

RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
A few months ago I became aware of Whitesnake having a history that started way before the mid 80s and I was intrigued. I liked a lot of their tunes during the mid 80s and several years ago I bought a hits cd of theirs and was really impressed with the musicianship of the band for the songs I didn't already know and love. Then, in hearing Coverdale also did some work as the lead singer for Deep Purple for a while I became even more fascinated at how that would work in the Whitesnake setting as I'd argue Deep Purple and Whitesnake are two different animals musically.

I picked this up and got it yesterday:

Basically a collection of their early works and I gotta say, I can hear the Deep Purple influence but the music is less of their mid-80s sound I was familiar with and more of a Deep Purple meets Led Zeppelin kind of vibe. Definitely digging it so far.

I've been getting into dirges and mournful songs in general. This one comes with an interesting story.

Tommy Shaw (of Styx) visit's Daryl's House (Daryl Hall of Hall & Oats). This short video shows what happens when Daryl's band and Shaw do a special rendition of "Renegade" and "Too Much Time on My Hands". Not only does Tommy Shaw still have great pipes and superb guitar skills, Daryl's band is great too. Enjoy!
