Belmont in Tennessee
I know this kind of ranking doesn't really mean anything, and it won't win any titles for us. But, it is fun to contemplate. So, is it possible that, as of right now, Belmont could have the strongest D-1 men's program in the state of Tennessee?
I listed every one of the D-1 programs in Tennessee below (I don't think I missed anyone). After their name, I put their record, current RPI, in-state losses, and (only for Belmont) in-state wins.
Austin Peay: 5-15, #340 RPI ranking, (lost to Lipscomb and U.T. Martin)
Belmont: 15-4, #23 RPI ranking, (no in-state losses) . . . beat Lipscomb [twice], MTSU, TN Tech, U.T. Martin, and TSU
ETSU: 5-14, #246 RPI ranking, (lost to Lipscomb and TN Tech)
Lipscomb: 7-11, #223 RPI ranking, (lost to Belmont [twice])
Memphis: 14-3, #48 RPI ranking, (no in-state losses)
MTSU: 16-4, #36 RPI ranking, (lost to Belmont)
Tennessee Tech: 7-11, #264 RPI ranking, (lost to Lipscomb, TSU, and Belmont)
Tennessee State: 12-8, #101 RPI ranking, (lost to MTSU and Belmont)
U.T.: 9-7, #99 RPI ranking, (lost to Memphis)
U.T. Chattanooga: 8-11, #258 RPI ranking, (no in-state games, they did lose to EKU who we just beat)
