Doug Hess. The only 7' player in UT history. Don't think he was a Toledo HS product, though.

He was not from Toledo area HS. Dale Geistler was - and he had a great game against Bob Lanier one year. We could put "the footer" and Geistler in the game and have 7'0" and 6'9" on the front line in 1970.

My favorite Doug Hess memory is when he committed a foul and as he was walking to take his spot along the key for the foul shot, the ref told him to raise his hand to signal the foul was on him. He did - and promptly got his hand tangled in the net.

Doug Hess's nickname (ala Jerry Keil) "The Footer". Dale Geistler's nickname (ala Jerry Keil) "Goose".

Hess raised his arm frequently as I recall but he was a rebounding machine.

Back in the day when Nichols was recruiting almost exclusively from Central Catholic where he used to coach. Didn't Pat Murnen also go to Toledo. Kindle was from Bedford and I think he transferred in from another school - but don't remember which one.

Too bad that most of the great Toledo players ended up going to Ohio State instead of Toledo. That list includes:

Wardell Jackson
Kelvin Ransey
Dennis Hopson
Jimmy Jackson (retired jersey)
Neshaun Coleman

probably others I can't remember right now.

Kindle came over in the trade with BG- they got Steve Cooper, a guard from Jersey who became a permanent fixture on their bench. We got an All-MAC PG. Rocket Elvis and I were in PE class with Cooper. We both recall his brief time at UT. We both think we got the far better end of the deal.

John Hodak and Dennis Perzynski(not sure if there was a Pawlecki) were from Central. Pat Murnen is Mike's younger brother and he went to Dayton.

The list would be very long but the ones that went to UT is very interesting. Next time there's a game at Waite, I'll have to pay more attention to the Hall of Fame wall to see who went to UT. Same for Central Catholic, which has a great HOF wall. Rossford has had some great b-ball, I'd have to believe there were others besides Gladieux?

I'll probably pay more attention next time I'm at the high school games and looking at the HOF walls.

I believe that Chock Chuckovits went to Waite
Jeff and Mitch Seeman from Central Catholic
Kevin Baker who went to Minnesota and then to UT
Was Bill Gleason mentioned?

Local who went somewhere else
Leon Thomas Libbey Iowa
Craig Lynch Furman
Todd Mitchell Purdue
Can't think of his First name name but there was a really Good St Francis player who went to Xavier in the 80's his last name was Parker
another one who went to USC
Donald Collins Washington st
There was another good one from St Francis player who went to Xavier played with Kevin Baker a tall kid played against Craig Thames

I believe you are thinking of Larry Sykes.

That was a pretty good SFS team. As you mentioned Baker went to Minnesota, then transferred to UT. Sykes went to Xavier, Jeff Edgecomb went to Miami, James Johnson went to Kent St, and I believe Nolan Roberts went to Valpo.

They're in our region come tournament time. Suppose there's no given cut-off in the thread but I imagine Lima is reasonable commute distance.

Chris Poellnitz from Scott played for UT I think and son also was due to come here.

Pretty sure neither ever actually played. I remember getting excited when CP the elder signed on but if he ever played it was for about a minute. He was one of the more exciting players I've seen in HS.

Kanter played at Mississippi State. My BIL was friends with him at Whitmer. Rick Rightenower played in toledo somewhere too, I believe. And some other Rossford guy played here and went to Coastal Carolina. these last may have been mentioned but I didn't see them.
