I would like it if they cut scholarships from 85 to 80. Means better players end up playing in the MAC.

RE: NCAA looking to cut FB scholarships
Basically they are saying, bring fewer kids to college on scholarship so they can pay more to those that are here, correct? Bleh to that trickle down.

I think before rooting that one on, I'd spend some time going over the last few years of recruiting to estimate, which recruits we would have gotten (or lost or not recruited that turned out to be good gets) versus other programs. Off the top of my head, MAYBE that QB that ended up at OSU?

The JC transfers that helped out probably would not be here as we wouldn't have had room.

It's not seeming an easy formula to me.

I'm sure Toledo would have still brought in the JC's and not offered a few other guys that were at the bottom of the class.

Meh.. The NFL seems to put out a pretty good product with 53 men per side. I've always thought 264 kids on the sideline with duplicate numbers was a bit hokey anyhow.

Think about it, any scholarship reductions sends better players to the non-AQ's. We should love this.

i remember way back when there were only 55 scholies offered ,seemed to be sufficient.

Fiftyfive would be a tad low... But a reduction to maybe 75 or 70 scholarships would be doable... The trickle down effect to a school like Toledo would be substantial, and ultimately level the playing field with the talent being spread around...

Would there be other positives besides trickle down recruiting? With the fewer scholarships, would schools be able to reinstitute some men's programs, like wrestling?

It's sure possible, yes.

I guess if you don't want the MAC to succeed then you don't want UT to succeed.

I think the inference was, he doesn't want UT in the MAC.

Let's face it, Toledo isn't likely to move anywhere anytime soon unless C-USA feels they have to expand. I'm not convinced they will feel that way. So Toledo is in the MAC, and the better point here is that going from 85 to 80 scholarships will help Toledo.

and that at the worse, the top of the MAC is consistently competitive with the middle or higher in the B10. How to improve the conference I think is the better road. It's nicely located. Long time rivals but it seems the teams are left to individual devices in building fan bases. A collective approach would be much more effective I'd think.

I see the people who say they don't care about the MAC, they only care about Toledo, kinda like the people who are from the Toledo area but don't give a f#$% about UT. You're here in Toledo (or in the MAC), so why not root for Toledo (or the MAC)? It will only help out the overall cause. Saying you're from Toledo, yet you don't care about UT, is like saying you're a UT fan and don't care how the MAC does overall. It's like you're from Toledo and don't care about UT because you would rather go to 0$U/UM/ND.

Bingo. Sure, I wish we were AQ but we aren't. Until then we need our competition to look as good as possible, and then beat them all.

This was the best the MAC has been in football in a decade in my opinion. The decade in between was deplorable!
But this season was still highlighted by a lot of close defeats (excluding a good bowl season against other non-AQ programs).
