Recently, many of us received a card in the mail, requesting us to do
a 30 Second Survey.
Apparently, this was an effort to separate us from our monies,
after we expire?
How disappointing, when many od us in SouthEastern Michigan are still
looking forward to New Programs and Activities for WMU Alumni.
What ever happened to the previous Alumni Survey?
Is it still being discussed 'in Committee" ?
Is it "Classified"?
Of course, this is not unusual, since many of have been asked before,
for our opinions, which are soon forgotten.
Several years ago, it was reported that a Million Dollars was taken from
the then "Alumni Association, to rehab an old building, that most WMU Alumni
will never see the inside of.
This , for all intent and purposes, ended the WMU Alumni Association.
Many Alumni, who paid foe LifeTime Memberships, were/are still PO'd about
that "debacle".
Talk about DISRESPECT !
(Bait and Switch, Taking ones under False Pretenses, etc etc................)
No Membership Cards, no Chapter Meetings, Occasionally a Watch Party at
a local Bar or Saloon, but no Presentations or Visits in Hotels, Community Meeting Rooms,
and no SE Michigan Golf Tournaments as in the past, etc etc...............
Talk about Regression !
Apparently, many WMU Administrators are unaware of the fact that,
SOCIAL MEDIA will never, never, never replace the MEET AND GREET, EYEBALL TO EYEBALL,
and the HEARTY HANDSHAKE !
As we've mentioned before, if you wish to have WMU Alumni in vest in our Alma Mater,
It's a good thing to invest in our Alumni.
The recent meeting with the new Present, according to our Operatives, being scheduled
during the work week, in downtown Detroit, was so poorly attended that they had to give
tickets away!
Who's Genius Idea was it to insult the WMU Alumni of Southeastern Michigan and
President Montgomery?
Perhaps, President Montgomery, could look into these matters, and use his creative
talents, to create a New and Progressive Western Michigan University Alumni Association.
No one else seems interested, or capable of operating a Functioning
WMU Alumni Association
What do you think?

Many colleges and universities are experiencing difficulty engaging alumni, particularly young alumni.
Too much college debt after college and too much tyrannical "poltical correctness" during college.
By the time they are done, they do not feel the need, or desire, to "give back."
Lots of reasons impact this. As a conservative Alumni I sure don't feel compelled to give financial donations to WMU when I read that Leftwing rag they call the Western Herald. After posting numerous 'replies to the editor' on their far left pablum, I challenged them to add JUST ONE conservative opinion writer for balance to the cacophony of Left-thought they offer up. From the responses I got you would have thought I was asking them to hire a far-right kook journalist instead of someone who represented 50+ % of the voters in Michigan.
They finally agreed to let someone from the WMU College Republicans offer counterpoint on some of their more inflammatory Opinions-this promise was about 6 months ago and I've yet to see one counterpoint published.
The Western Herald is the 'face' of Western to many students, Alumni, parents and casual observers. As such, they need to consider the audience they are writing for and offer more balance in their Articles and Opinion writers, or risk offending a large proportion of their readers. And it DOES impact donations.
Last year I donated to some WMU specific items and projects. We'll see if I do it next year. Though I have never attended Hillsdale College I like their philosophy and educational offerings. And I really love their newspaper the 'Hillsdale Collegian' which offers not only conservative thought but actual balanced Opinions. I will probably donate to them this coming year.
THAT'S your reason not to donate? Take it from someone who used to write for the Herald-- nobody reads the Herald.
Beyond that, it's actually independent from the school, by design. So whatever you feel about their bias (I don't doubt it exists), it isn't the school's fault. Nor should the school be involved in what they print.
