Would it be reasonable to say to a recruit that it would be more likely that NIU could make it to a BCS game before Minnesota does?
Not the direction things are moving. It's looking like a more traditional contractual tie-in system is coming back in some form.
I was talking about within the next 2 years.

Anyone know if we are showing any interest in the RB from Downers Grove South? He put up huge numbers this year and was injured last year. He's the type of player we usually sneak in here.

He IS from Minny so I am not expecting much since he would have to pay his way.
This kid is a workout warrior...bench over 300 and squat over 500 at 205!

North Point High (Maryland) cornerback Blake Monroe says NIU is close to offering and he has an official visit here on Jan. 28th. He says NIU stands out the most since his visit back in October. Plans to make a visit to Toledo too.

Interesting that there is no NIU offer but 3 BCS schools have offered (including Wisconsin).

With reported offers from Wisconsin, Indiana and Kentucky it seems that this kid understands that his best shot at starting will be at a smaller school.

If he is afraid of competition, I don't want him. Those 3 schools offered before us. Not like they are coming in at last minute like we might. If you don't think you can play at an elite level, not gonna cut it in the MAC.

Good to see some positive chatter on the recruiting board. With the quiet period now over it appears our championship success is getting noticed by recruits.

Could be the position the BCS schools want him to play at as well. Non-aq schools might see him at the position he wants to play, where as the BCS schools want him at another.

Check out his feet and cuts on his runs. Could make a great slot guy like NaPalm.
EDIT: I know Palmer didn't play QB in high school, but I actually think Eric Page did.

With the current BCS format expiring at the end of 2013, it's a question no one can really answer but NIU is far more likely to go bowling every year than Minny. Minny & Indy bring up the bottom of the Big 10. Even if they win every OOC game they still have to win 2 more just to be bowl eligible.
When your division includes Michigan, MSU, Nebraska, Iowa & NU, the are definitely up against it. They did pull the upset this year over Iowa but I can't remember the last time Northwestern lost to Minny

Not that Rivals is the sole arbiter of all recruiting knowledge but the Gophers are bringing up the rear in their rankings.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiti.../BIG10/all
JK has been known to get the most out of what talent he has but the talent he has so far at least according to Rivals is not B10 calibre.

RE: 2012 Recruiting Thread
The Huskie class looks solid at every positive except it's light at LB. There are a few that would look great in Cardinal and Black:
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...son-124057
Nice Speed and Vertical. Has offers from Toledo & Ohio. Does have NIU listed. Would hate to lose him to a conference rival.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...fin-130234
Has height, speed, 120 tackles and offers from Army & Air Force so you know
his academics and attitude are solid. Also scored 28 td's rushing & receiving.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...edt-132426
Decent size, very strong (360 bp) would be sweet to get one out of Iowa City given the Hawkeye fans attitude toward NIU. Played on 2 time state championship team. Has Huskies in his favs.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...vis-120893
Excellent speed for a MLB has the speed to play outside , 227 total tackles the last 2 years along with 4 sacks and 8 breakups. has Army & ND ST offers. Very strong (375 bp)
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...ore-124431
Has Army offer, nice size, good speed, very strong (325 bp) 22 TFL's , 3 sacks, 2 INT's and 1 FR.
With DD's contacts in Kansas, NIU should be in all their favorite program listings.

This was my biggest concern when NIU hired him. If you look at his recruiting classes even back then, there was a lot of "not MAC caliber" talent he was bringing in. He is grossly overrated as a recruiter, but I will give him deserved credit for getting the most out of his players. His training and development program seemed to be an improvement over what was in DeKalb when he arrived, so credit there as well.
I picked NU over Minny and Minny over UI this year mainly due to home-field. I expect these 3 teams to be very close the next 2-3 years with the advantage going to the home team. After that (approx. enough time for 1 recruiting cycle to show), things will depend on how the two new coaches in Minny and Champaign do.
I contend that NU peaked during your current coach's playing days, hit a lull then came back a bit, but realistically, has hit a ceiling. This is not so much against the school, your coach, or the football program, but rather the nature of the Beast. NU is at a disadvantage against other Big 10 schools. And the ability to compete in one's conference will always be a factor.

This is another good thing that JK brought. He also had many MO and KS contacts that put NIU on the radar and bringing in DD to sustain that and improve upon it was a great move.
I HEART the DD hire.
I like recruiting from "Big 12 North" country and MN, IN, and WI. Makes NIU standout as a MAC school, when most of the others are hitting the rustbelt of MI and OH, and areas east.

RE: 2012 Recruiting Thread
MO, KS, MN, IA, WI are states that most of the other MAC programs don't work that hard and the MWC teams that NIU competes for talent in these states (NM, CSU & Wyoming) with the exception of Wyoming are in a tail spin.
