RE: The movie thread
I just saw Kick Ass on the plane...LOVED IT! Very good movie.
Also watched most of The Joneses. Great concept, but the tone got way too somber. I understood the message, and there's truth there, but I do watch movies for entertainment, not a scolding.
Started to watch Greenberg. Ugh. Don't know where it was headed, but that was 8 minutes of my life wasted.

Kick Ass is good..... can't wait for a sequel to it... and I think the material leads to going even further with the concept.

I can understand why people hate this film. The characters in Noah Baumbach's films aren't really likable, but I feel they aren't manufactured. His films are labeled comedies, but they really aren't, even though there is a fair amount of humor. I loved Greenberg. It was nice to see Ben Stiller out of his element per se.
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. The editor of Elle magazine suffers a stroke, goes into a coma and is left completely paralyzed except vision in his left eye. He is fully coherent but cannot speak. So he communicates by blinking his left eye, and he writes a book. He has an assistant (a very patient and dedicated assistant) who translates his blinks thru a frequency ordered alphabet. His book is about living with his condition and about when he stopped pitting himself. Very moving and very powerful, but also very very depressing.
I am Love. Italian film starring Tilda Swinton. I love Tilda Swinton. She's amongst the finest actresses out there, if not the best. I was so so let down by this. Beautiful shot, well acted, but f*cking boring. An Italian soap opera. The trailer is gorgeous though.
Pride & Glory. Oh man the writing was on the wall with this one. When's someone gonna make an original cop movie? Hell of a plot there guys. I feel Edward Norton is making some very bad choices. And for the record, I love Colin Farrell.

RE: The movie thread
I just saw two movies on the airplane.
Karate Kid- This movie was underwhelming. It kept close to the original, but was worse at every point, except perhaps the kung fu. Obviously a vehicle for Will Smith to get his kid in a movie. In the end the only noteworthy point is that Jaden Smith looks EXACTLY like Riley from The Boondocks.
The A-Team- Better than the TV show. This was a very good movie. Nice references to the original series, solid storytelling with outstanding continuity, good plot and character development. Fun all the way around.
I also saw about half of "Miss March". Had the feel of a National Lampoon movie. There were some lol funny parts.

Actually took the whole family to see Tron...first time ever we'd done that, other than IMAX at museums.
Anyway Tron= Matrix + Star Wars.
In fairness, I'd like to see the original Tron to see if Matrix borrowed from it.
In short, decent effects, ok story, nothing too profound.
Also, since we got FiOS, we've seen many more flicks. Saw Star Trek, and liked it pretty well.

it definitely wasn't profound, but definitely a cool movie, with neat visuals.

True Grit was an awesome movie, and the last one I've paid to see in about 6 months. Worth the price. Matt Damon is even funnier once you've been stuck in TX for a while.
Also rented Despicable Me and thought it was very good and moved quickly. Was not impressed by Date Night (Fey, Carrell).

i meant comedic actors. I can't stand Steve Carrell and i don't care for Tina Fey either.

As far as Tron Legacy goes:
I liked it. I was glad they didn't go the overload effects suck on story that I was worried about. I kind of want to re-watch it and Tron again... some of the story subtleties in Tron Legacy I wanted to review to see how they lined up with the original.
As far as Star Trek went;
I liked the old 60s tv show to some degree but never got into the movies as much. What I did like about the NEW Star Trek is it had a energy and edge to it that to me kept me more into it than previous Star Trek movies.
