Don't get me wrong, Infinity War was amazing, and I'm sure Avengers 4 will break all the records next year....but I dunno, is Ant Man and the Wasp a story that NEEDS to be told? I get the feeling that one will be Marvel's lowest grossing film to date. It's like.... superhero after superhero after superhero after superhero, and four Marvel character films that close together? Just seems like overkill...maybe it's just me.
On one hand I am totally with you, on another, if the quality keeps up I am not opposed to it.
However, I do think the Super Hero genre is starting to get saturated even if the movies are good.

I don't know if anyone but Ryan Reynolds could make this happen. Josh Brolin as the "villain" in did a really good job as well. He got ripped for this part. Go and see this movie if you liked the first one. Still inappropriate for small kids but less inappropriate than the first one.
I thought DP 2 was great.
A little more action that the first. Still managed to capture that deadpan humor along with an ample amount of vulgarity.
I appreciated the "insider" humor as well. Found myself laughing when most others weren't.
If you like the first, you'll definitely like the second.

Saw it last night. Tempered my expectations going in, because you can't recapture the newness/magic of a really unique movie like Deadpool.
They didn't recapture anything. They just doubled down and it was fantastic.
I was starting to think Cable was playing it too straight until "dubstep is for *******". So much great stuff. Funny cameo by Brad Pitt (highlight for the spoiler) - I'm sorry I'd read about that before watching - would have been much better as a surprise. The whole X Force treatment was hilarious.
Definitely have to see it again - pretty sure I missed 1/4 of the jokes while I was laughing.

Saw Solo last night.....
The best I can do is Meh.....
I didn't find his back story that compelling or interesting. All the characters were just kind of there or worse yet, wooden with the exception of Woody Harrelson's which I kind of liked.
Couple of thoughts from the movie.
1) Emilia Clarke, God is she beautiful.
2) Can we please get a movie from the Star Wars Universe that doesn't introduce some sort of plucky or smart-ass droid trying to give us the next version or R2D2 or C3PO?
3) If this is the best of the back stories, then please don't make any more.

The excuse of this movie is out too soon is a crap excuse. I don't have the desire to know a backstory of Han Solo and many people think so apparently. It's not a compelling character for a standalone movie.
Rogue One succeed for me because it filled a main story line with the building of the Death Star and how the plans were stolen that lead to the beginning of episode 4.

Solo is doing rather poorly for they were expecting so far.
*************************
I'm kind with you on the overuse of droids as comic relief. IMO, C3PO and R2D2 were just droids with personalities and while they in essence were comic relief is was more "their deal" than just being comic relief. BB8 was decent. I liked the droid from Rogue One as he was reprogrammed so he could kind of be that way. But, the one in SOLO seemed completely out of place and it was just kind of weird about it and Lando's "relationship."
************
I think a Han Solo back story could be kind of cool in that finding out how he got the fastest ship in the galaxy, why he got into the line of work he got into, what would have been his life experiences to give him the feelings he had about The Force, the universe, and why he was the way he was. The problem with Solo is you are doing a prequel based one of the more beloved characters of the franchise that was made beloved solely by the Harrison Ford played the role. The new movie did dole out some points about what got him to the place he was mentally about things but some of it just felt kind of flat.
****************
Personally, I think Disney saw the Star Wars license as a golden parachute for a windfall of money and they are going to milk it for all its worth. I think they are burning out the public with a movie a year turn around cycle. Maybe they need to slow it down and have projects out e very other year and put that extra time into development of quality scripts, and quality cinema.

This is disappointing to hear. I liked Rogue One so much because it was a stand along movie and not a cliffhanger like all the other ones. I'll still go and see this one and hope for the best.

RE: The movie thread
I've been watching a few movies lately with the wife and on my own.
Wind River- I thought it was pretty good. Good story but seemed kinda slow in parts. Jeremy Renner definitely did a great job. Oslen's best part was when they showed her in a thong changing clothes.
Pitch Perfect 3- Let me be clear I only watch cause I think Anna Kendrick is hot. That being said. This one didn't need to be made.
Life of the Party- Meh. McCarthy was ok. Movie was kinda lame. Wife loves it.
Game Night-light Again it was meh. It had me laughing more than Life of the Party.
I've went back and started watching the MCU movies in this order
Capt America
Iron Man
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2
Thor
The Avengers
Next on deck is
Iron Man 3
Thor 2
The Winter Soldier
And both Guardians.

Do that. My wife and I saw it and it was by far better than the last sequel. It had action, and while I agree about the annoying PC drone it was minor to the complex story that held our attention and carried the movie through to the end where there were some surprises that tied things back into the main story line in some intriguing ways. Mostly we didn't feel ripped off like we did with the last disjointed and out of character sequel which IMO probably hurt the opening of this one.
Ron Howard directed and the focus contributed to the Star Wars character development without detracting from what had been a fairly consistent story line through the first 3 movies and in the 5th. I liked Rogue One very much and felt the droid in that one added in a surprising way. But while I felt that Rogue One jumped around a bit this movie is much easier to follow and while Rogue One was serious, this one remains faithful to the characters and plot as I mentioned, but also manages to be fun, not funny.

The biggest issue I had was at the end.
Qi'ra was shown talking to someone who we are lead to believe was Darth Maul. If that is in fact the Darth Maul from Episode 1 then the timeline is WAY off. Maul was killed when Anakin was just a child so that would mean that Han was at least in his 20's when Maul was killed by Obi-Wan. That would make Han at least 30 years older than Luke & Leia which doesn't jive with the movie timeline.
The only possible explanation would be that it's a different Maul and that would tend to confuse things even more.
It seemed to leave more questions than it answered.

Snow White: Winter's War / BR
--I like how they have done the characters and the stories for both of the live action Snow White movies.
Arrow S6 / NF
--7 episodes in. I like it so far.
The Toys that Made Us S1 and S2 partial/ NF
--Really cool stories on some of the biggest toy lines to have come out with a lot of background information on the histories of the toys, the makers of the toys, and if there were comics, animated series, movies ect... involved .
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales / BR
--I liked the story and the lore tied to the tale. The only thing that I think made it not as great is that the Salazar's henchmen were way to close to the un-dead Pirates from the first movie.

According to the cartoons and comic books. Maul survived. Built a crime organization and was later killed by Obi-Wan right before the events of New Hope. A bunch of stuff on YouTube about it.

The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded / BR
-- The first one and the Animatrix are still my faves in the series and while Reloaded was decent, I was still kind put off by 3 and the reasoning out of the whole trilogy.
Incredibles 2/ Theater
---Arguably better than the first one. The "female twist" in it worked for the most part. Also the working wife/stay at home Husband angle didn't feel overbearing but the set up was interesting.
The Flash S6 / NF
--I enjoyed this season much more than last season. The set up of DeVoe and his metahuman agenda for himself was quite interesting. My main issues with The Flash as a character is still the fact that based his speedforce ...time travel.... multiverse.... is that in any scenario you can play the any speedster from any multiverse from any timeline could come in and change things.

Han Solo is about 10-15 years older than Luke and Leia. In Episode IV Luke/Leia are 18 years old, why Solo is in his early 30s. There is an 18 year gap between Episode III (where the twins are born) and Episode 4. The Solo movie is set about 9-10 years in between.
As someone else mentioned, Maul was found to have survived in the Stars Wars: The Clone Wars animated series (which is considered cannon). Following the battle with Obi-Wan in episode, he was severely wounded and suffered from amnesia (Since Clone Wars was set in between Episode II and III, this would mean nearly 20 years after Episode I). Maul's memory was restored and wounds were healed by Mother Talzin (a witch).
FWIW, Maul was never accepted back in with the Sith. The Emperor confronts Maul in Clone Wars and reminds him of the "Rule of Two" and tells him he has been replaced. A battle ensues, Maul is defeated but he survives. In Star Wars Rebels (set in between Episode III and IV and contemporaneous to the Solo movie), Maul tracks a deposed Obi-Wan to tatooine. Obi-Wan defeats and kills Maul.

I enjoyed Incredibles 2 and my kids loved it, but I'd say I was somewhat underwhelmed. They spent 14 years saying they would only make a second Incredibles if they came up with a great story but ended up settling for the same story over again just with the father and mother's roles reversed, with a bit of the political questions of Captain America Civil War thrown in.

Exactly how I felt. It was a very good movie, but when i walked out I felt as if I could've saved the time going to the theater and just watched the first movie at home.

--It was actually pretty darn good--I was pleasantly surprised. I could tell they probably put some movie magic to some of the characters and setups.
Voltron S6 / NF
--Another solid entry in the series. You always knew Lotor wasn't on the level but they spun that yarn very well into all that was behind everything in regards to the endgame.
Jurassic Park / BR
--One of my faves.
(JP) The Lost World / BR
--decent follow up but it went south to me when they left the island to head to San Diego.

IN some mildly interesting movie news:
http://www.darkhorizons.com/ninja-turtle...ds-writer/
** IMO the fist one of the new ones was a good starter movie. I actually liked the 2nd one arguably more although I thought the endgame with Krang cold have been better and had a little more full plot development put in with him and Shredder teaming up. I think they have been decent enough to warrant a go for #3. I do still find them easier to watch than the old school ones.
http://www.darkhorizons.com/chloe-moretz...-hit-girl/
By now she probably has outgrown the role agewise however, I do think she and her character were one of the stronger parts of 1 and 2. I guess if they wanted to continue this movie series somehow, they would have to reboot the entire series and pull in another cast.
http://www.darkhorizons.com/lucasfilm-pu...s-on-hold/
Disney seems to finally realize that too much Star Wars and too much in terms of so so movies is starting to kill the golden goose. FWIW, I thought Solo was decent for what it was.
