The Last Jedi / theater
-- yeah...

Alien Covenant / BR
--much better than Prometheus in a lot of regards but still kind of missing that thing the first two had.

Scooby Doo / Netflix
--on a whim I watched it. I actually liked how they pulled it off as a live action movie. The villain reveal was unexpected and a great twist IMO. The only think that I thought didn't work was Scooby himself looked really out of place in the reality of the movie with his CGI.

Star Wars The Force Awakens / BR
--Tried to get caught up on the events of the last one before the new one hit.

I loved it and can't wait to bring the kids back to watch it again tomorrow. It gets better and better as I think it over in head. Best SW since Empire Strikes Back, it was.

(The wife won't let me take them to Pg13 films unless I've already seen it first and given it the ok, so I get to see all the good movies at least twice in the theater)

Saw Last Jedi last night. Really enjoyed it. A few things I didn't like stood out enough that they took me out of the movie for a few seconds but that's probably nit-picking. That was a lot of movie. Lots of big moments, surprises. 3rd act felt almost like a 4th act.

RE: The movie thread
I saw Last Jedi last night.

If you're like me, you grew up watching the original trilogy. Couldn't wait til the prequels came out and was disappointed with Phantom Menance. But you understood you had to tell that story to get to the originals. You cling to the originals. That being said, there were a few things that hit me like, they got this from Empire Strikes Back. It wasn't as bad as Force Awakens but there were a couple of things. I won't elaborate any further. I had these high expectations of what I thought should happen. And when it didn't I was disappointed.

That being said, this is a good movie in my opinion. This is not a continuation saga of the originals. The prequels we're about Anakin Skywalker, the rise of the Emperor, and the birth of Darth Vader. Rogue One bridges a small gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The original trilogy is about Luke Skywalker, the Rebellion, and bringing down the Empire. This new saga is about the Resistance, Rey, and Kylo Ren. Keep that in mind and you'll enjoy them.

I liked it and Force Awakens once I accepted this fact. Were there parts I didn't like, yea. Was there things that needed explaining, yea but it's nothing major. Did I ge hit in the feels? Oh yeah.

If you like Star Wars, go see it. Keep in mind this isn't about Luke and Leia, that time has passed and a new torch is being passed down.

Saw The Last Jedi last night and enjoyed it. I thought it was one of the best ones yet but I'm still an old school Empire Strikes Back fan. My only issue with the last jedi is it was an assault on the senses with no time to come up for air. It was mentally draining with all the action and battle scenes. I absolutely loved the light speed effects in particular when the lone piloted rebel ship did the nasty to Snoke's cadillac cruiser. Definitely worth seeing it on the big screen.

It was good. I think I liked Rouge One a little bit better but this was very solid. I wish there had been more training of Rey as a Jedi

Scooby Doo 2 / NF
--Not bad and I did like the though of having a club where all the old unmasked villains would hang out at to discuss their issues with the detectives.

Bright / NF
--Color me meh on this. It was like some weird mix of Colors, LotR, and Independence Day. I didn't dislike it but I also didn't really get into it either. IMO, it needed some better plot point clarifications.

Star Wars The Phantom Menace / BR
--Just wanted warm myself up to more modern takes on Star Wars versus the original trilogy now that all The Last Jedi hate is out in the media LOL.

Batman (60s) / BR
--Got back into watching more episodes. I still love this show. Adam West is so gangster. His deadpan wit and belief in what he's doing... just gives off the impression that he is owning it.

Catwoman / NF
--I knew this movie was horrible as I had seen it before but for some reason I wanted to watch it. Even Holly Berry in a tight, barely there leather cat suit can't overcome the horribleness of this movie. It feels like some sort of feminist take on the Catwoman character went badly awry. The female empowerment angle, the "history" of cat women, Sharon Stone in a villain role so less bad ass than her character from Basic Instinct or Total Recall, the cosmetics from the beauty industry kill you angle, the Christoph Waltz ( who somehow I missed he was in this the first time, although I don't think he blew up till Inglorious Basterds) as the cheating overbearing husband angle.... ohhh where do I end? Its a bad movie. I will say though, that Catwoman as a character from the Batman universe has been one of my favorites but this incarnation of the character in a movie was turrible.

You left Alien Nation out of your weird mix - it was actually the first movie I thought of (1988 - you're too young for it?). I liked Bright less than you. I managed to watch it all the way through but kind of regret it now. Felt like Smith was phoning it in. Lots of lazy dialog and, I completely agree that they didn't do a good job of setting the scene. It's one thing to ask the audience to figure things out for themselves, but a whole other thing to leave massive gaps in context.

Had interesting potential, I think. Just very poorly executed.

Never saw Alien Nation. I won't say Will Smith phoned it in but felt like they tried to fit some races of people for LotR into the gangland drama of Colors. Hell, they even brought up colors in the movie. Even tried to bring up RAMPART. It was like they wanted to address LA gangs and racism but couldn't do it with human races and had to insert elves and orcs to do it. For all the hype around it though, it felt like a very underwhelming movie.

RE: The movie thread
Wow...so it's been a while since I commented here.

Loved Thor: Ragnarok, loved Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and liked Bright.

T:R was a movie that could've slowed down a bit, I did love the chemistry between Hemsworth and Thompson, and I can't wait to see them do more. They went full Kirby, and I loved it.

ST:TLJ was a movie that could've sped up a bit. The caper on the casino planet was interesting, but I could've just as easily done without so much of it. Everything else was top notch for me.

I would've loved to see more of the world Bright inhabited. We got dropped in and had to fend for ourselves. Since they're doing a sequel, I look forward to seeing what they do next.

Saw Bright. Was underwhelmed to say the least. With the cast they had, it should have been better. Seems like it was made so a few people could get a paycheck.

LOVED the new Jumanji. It goes back to one of those old fashioned silly and fun movies. It didn't take itself too seriously and combined it with some legit humor. One of those movies all ages could enjoy. Having Karen Gillan running around in that skimpy outfit didn't hurt either.....

Just saw Kingsman: The Golden Circle (Amazon ppv). I enjoyed the first movie more, but still had fun with this one. Both movies, though, really made odd choices with the villains. Sam Jackson with his lisp, Julianne Moore with the perpetual happiness. Fortunately, the movie is delivered by the good guys; not the bad. This movie missed the character growth that we saw in Eggsy in the first movie, on the other hand I liked the Whiskey character played by Pedro Pascal (who was great in Narcos).

RE: The movie thread
Not sure why but...

Die Another Day / dvd
--I liked the movie overall and some of the novel concepts it had like Bond in a North Korean prison and being offered up in a hostage trade. But where it fell apart is it got a little too over the top in terms of its super villain's plot. Also, the relentless double entendres into sexual themes just kind of wore themselves out over the course of the movie. I think they kind of over and under utilized Halle Berry depending on the scene.

The World Is Not Enough / dvd
--I loved the villain, I loved the interconnected plot of of M and Elektra King, and I loved bringing back Robbie Coltrain. I think they really under developed Denise Richard's character in some parts.

Insidious: The Last Key / theater
--got invited to go. I had its moments but I think I really needed to see earlier movies in the series to kind of put together what I was seeing in this one. The key fingered demon was cool with his abilities. Her paranormal abilities were cool. I think here two cohorts fell flat as nerdy comic relief and didn't do much for me in terms of their ties to what was going on.

Doctor Strange / NF
--NF just because, as I have the BR. Honestly, I really liked his movie. I had liked a few animated incarnations I had seen of his prior to his movie coming out in theaters so I was game to some of his deal. The Ancient One thing I can see as a issue but but I don't think the movie made a controversial deal out of it ... in other words they didn't put up background stuff to kind make her seem out of place in terms of the story they were telling.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace / BR
--Not the best of the prequels but it had its moments.
