--Ehh just didn't like it too much even though I thought the set up was ok.

Godzilla Raids Again / Net Flix
--I liked the set up but the movie kind of sucked IMO.

Godzilla vs Mothra / Netflix
--I liked this one. Although I had totally forgotten about the caterpillars.

Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla / Net Flix
--This was hilarious, esepcially with the Alien set up.

Godzilla vs Ghidora / NetFlix
--Pretty cool set up and having Rhodan, Godzilla, and Mothra work together to take down the Martian menace in Ghidora was pretty cool.

overall old school Godzilla commentary:

I'm kind of impressed at the work on the miniatures they did in these. The fights which really did look like guys in rubber suits duking it out were crazy... and funny. Some of Godzilla's expressions were priceless. Not sure how I felt about the Island, the fairies, and Mothra.... IMO Godzilla and a epic monster movie is a little overhyped and now that I have watched some of the earlier movies, I really can't bag on the newer ones as much.

X Men: Days of Future Past
--Maybe I am the only one on this but I thought First Class was WAY BETTER. That said, the interlocking of the old and new X Men movies was cool and all the characters fit together nicely. I really liked seeing how broken down Xavier got after Cuba. "What it took" to get him back in the saddle was pretty cool. I really think they have done a good job in forming the bond of Xavier and Magneto and how they are different yet the same.

I saw X-Men: DOFP this weekend as well.

Best part of the movie was the segments involving Peter Maximoff (mutant name in the comics is Quicksilver but that was not mentioned in the movie). He was extremely entertaining and I wish he had more of a role in the film.

I too enjoyed seeing what happened to Charles Xavier after Cuba.

One thing that bothered me were the breaks in timeline. For example, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Wolverine serves in a mutant regiment with Major William Styker. Stryker already has a taste for experimenting on mutants (per the comic books he justified this based on his religious beliefs). In this movie Stryker serves as Boliver Trasks's right hand man, and the insinuation is that Trask first educates Stryker on mutant affairs (we know from the prior movies that the origins of Stryker's interest/hatred of mutants manifests from his own mutant son.

Yeah, Quicksilver was pretty cool.

I wonder if we need a timeline for Wolverine's involvement. Was Wolverine's involvement with Stryker "after" some events ... i.e., did Stryker start his task force post seeing Wolverine early on? IDK....time travel... and different comic book rewrites of origin stories make some stuff complicated.

Actually, on a serious note for X Men DOFP, those future sentinels sure did look like the ____ from the first Thor movie with that "heat beam" coming out the retracting face guard.

I watched X-Men: DoFP on Tuesday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I certainly enjoyed the return of John Ottman's score, as it is one of the themes that I immediately recognize no matter what.

Taking Chance, HBO

Quote:In 2004, Lt. Col. Michael Strobl volunteered to escort home the body of a 19-year-old Marine killed in Iraq. It would prove to be a life-altering experience. Kevin Bacon stars as Strobl in this profoundly moving 'HBO Films' drama that looks at the military rituals for honoring its war dead from the perspective of one fallen soldier named Chance Phelps.

Kevin Bacon does a terrific job. The movie is well made, almost documentary style. I found it very hard to watch and yet could not turn it off. A very emotional journey of a fallen Marine going home.

RE: The movie thread
latest movie to watch: The Raid - Redemption. (2011)

A cop calls in a SWAT team to clear out a crime boss, who has taken control of an old tenement building. A rookie team of SWAT members are sent i to capture and bring in the crime boss. What happens is a masterful display of a bloodbath of gun fights, machetes, and marshal arts. Plot? Beh.. just send in a corrupt lieutenant, a swat team with only two "experienced" offers and a ton of rookies... and just sit back and watch the blood flow!!!

Even though I only was able to watch the non-dubbed/non-subbed version of the movie on Crackle. I made sure to read the English plot summary afterwards to make sure I didn't miss anything... and I only missed one point (the fact that the "old cop" was getting set-up by someone.. from what I gather, the old cop was working dirty for "a different syndicate" (I missed this plot point, but it may be that it may be told in the 2nd movie that's due out at some point and I haven't seen it yet.), while someone warned Tama (the boss of the tenants) that the crooked cop was coming (that part I got).

It didn't even click to me that the entire team he was sent in with, except for 2 characters (I think) were rookies. But this movie it NOT for the squeamish who like their martial arts movies at a PG-13 level. Some of the fight scenes in narrow hallways are worth watching this one.

Someone said that when they made Dredd.. this is the look they were going for and missed. Someone else wrote a description for this movie as being "Blackhawk down + Martial arts".

If you're a fan of just action movies.. this one scores as an 8/10 (again, even without having an English version available to me.)

Very good movie. The job of escorting a fallen soldier home cannot be an easy task for the escort nor the family.

R.I.P.D- HBO-HD (from DVR). This movie will seem familiar to many, b/c it's basically GvE combined with MIB, with Ghostbuster effects, and a dash of Ghost to keep it sensitive. Anyway, the whole is less than the sum of these parts. The movie, while not terrible, is very cliché in every aspect. You know the characters, you know their jokes, you know the plot and every "twist" that is to come along. You even know when they're going to happen. This script may have been written by a (computer) script.

So, if it's on and you're bored w/ friends? Go ahead and watch it.

Purposely see it? Geesh, read a book will ya?

It wasn't that bad, Torch. Although I enjoyed the Simon Pegg movie The World's End far more. British humor is much more intelligent.

Usually just wait for movies to come to my dish. Been watching Captain Phillips with Tom Hanks a lot lately. The movie about the Somali pirates hijacking the Maersk Alabama, and the Navy's "Team 6" warm welcome to the Somali Pirates . . How the hell did this movie not sweep at the Oscars? Even though the movie was recently released. It has made my top 5 list of favorite movies.

F&F Tokyo Drift / BR
--After racing a TON of Mario Kart 8 I wanted to watch a movie about drifting. I like it. My only issue with it was the blatant rip off of Initial D.

The Expendables 2 / BR
--Better thought out than the first one and good use of inside jokes among the starts. I think JCVD played an excellent villain.

The Avengers S2 / NF
--I really liked Season 1 and just got through Season 2.

The Last Stand / NF
--Not as bad as it was made out to be, although not that great either.

I went and saw Million Dollar Arm. I thought it was actually a pretty good movie. It's good some great performances (Hamm, Arkin), is funny
and keeps you entertained. This is by no means one among the best baseball movies (ie. Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, etc.) but it is a decent family flick that is worthy to see.

Next chance you get watch Bull Durham - a classic! The first Major League movie is a classic as well.

On a different note...watch Slap Shot with Paul Newman if you haven't seen it. Now that is a funny take on minor league hockey!

I'm watching "CBGB" right now, a biographical story about Hilly Kristal. For those who aren't aware of who he is, he owned the NYC night club that gave many of the biggest names in punk rock their start in the 1970s-80s. Alan Rickman and Rupert Grint did an excellent job portraying 'em too.

The Natural and Bull Durham are in the top two or three of all time baseball movies for sure.

Roy Hobbs: I coulda been better. I coulda broke every record in the book.

Iris Gaines: And then?

Roy Hobbs: And then? And then when I walked down the street people would've looked and they would've said there goes Roy Hobbs, the best there ever was in this game
