Amen to that. I could read the 300 pages in less than the running of the three movies.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit / theater
--Solid movie, liked the espionage angle. It did feel a little less "reluctant spy" than previous offerings

The Expendables 2 / br
--Just a great action movie

Patriot Games / dvd
--IMO, it made Sean Bean a to villain actor! Great story.

Clear and Present Danger / dvd
--I liked the espionage / "Potomac two step" angle to the president being tied to drug lords. A pretty decent all star cast IMO.

The Sum of All Fears / dvd
--Ben Affleck played a decent Jack Ryan. I liked the Russian spy angle to it.

Gangster Squad / br
--Great period gangster movie. Felt like spin off from the Chinatown/The Two Jakes movies.

How was Costner? in Shadow Recruit? I used to really love him but he's definitely been hit or miss since Waterworld.

Also...Sean Bean:

He played a decent salty old dog / veteran of the CIA game to tutor Chris Pine's character in "the game" so to speak.

-- Not a bad Superman movie but somehow it felt like it was all action of a perfect mix of action and story like Superman I and II. That said, it was superior to III and IV. It also avoided the blandness of Returns. I did kind of like the Zod/Jor-El/Kal-El dynamic more than than Superman II.

I enjoyed Man of Steel. It did what it set out to do, it re-told the story with a few tweaks. I liked it.

We saw Anchorman 2.. It was eh..

I want to go see Lone Survivor.

Oceans 11, 12, and 13 on BR.
--IMO, 11 was the best but I liked the thief competition in 12, and I liked the overall grande con in 13. What makes all of them work though is the cast works great together.

Afro Samurai 2--dvd
--Seriously, if you like anime and like martial arts and like Sam Jackson, this movie is for you and you should also check out the "Season 1" tv show.

Yeah, that's a pretty good summation. I liked it, (imagine that), but it was a little thicker than it needed to be. They probably could have kept it to two movies.

I'd say my biggest complain was the CGI for everything but Smaug. The gold and the falling banner looked like a PS3 game to me.

Lone Survivor / theater
--Not a bad movie but I felt they spent too much time in the extended nature scene gun fights. Also too way to long to get to the end game.

<< QUESTION, was the kid at the end the kid at the beginning? My brother and I had a difference of opinion.

42, HBO

Better than I thought based on the mixed reviews. Lots of stories to tell, I wish they would have narrowed it down to one or two. Still worth watching.

RE: The movie thread
Saw a couple of movies the last week:

-- The Wolverine-- My opinion, it was good. I like they picked it up after the last X-Men movie and we saw a continuation of what he's dealt with since then

--Movie 43-- Definitely not one for the kiddies. Although it had a few funny sketches, not one I'd recommend to anyone unless you're looking to kill time and need a few cheap laughs.

--Don Jon-- Worst movie I've seen in awhile. If you want to watch a movie about a guy addicted to porn and whacking his bag, and the whole dating scene that's superficial, this is it. I couldn't get into it. I would rank Movie 43 above it.

RE: The movie thread
gravity. pretty intense but i was a bit let down. didn't watch this in the imax or whathaveyou then again i'm not much of a special effects person. i also would have liked to end the film another way

ain't them bodies saints. this was pretty close to a wild west flick but prettier to look at. rural texas, what scenery. this is one of the better films i've seen in a while. i wouldn't recommend it to many people because there's a lot of talking but it's just wonderful

Van Helsing / dvd
--I liked it...Hugh Jackman played the title character well I thought.

Escape Plan / BR
--I liked the team up...I liked the somewhat of a plot twist near the end.

RoboCop / BR
--Just a bad ass movie, the only thing that bugs me about the BR print is everything is so pristine except the in-movie tv shows.

RoboCop 2 / BR
--Liked the idea and you could tell they got better on the Stop Motion.

The Lego Movie / theater
--Followed the humor of the video games. I liked the story but wasn't quite expecting it to end the way it did. The Lego animation was darn impressive.

I've now caught the beginning and the end of this movie on HBO, it looks to be pretty good, I would like to watch the whole thing.

Predator (SE)/ dvd
--Just a bad ass movie. While 2 wasn't as bad ass in any way, shape, or form, the story line was solid enough. Predators, the Rodriguez remake, was a much better sequel IMO.

Thor / BR
--I liked it but the problem I really had with it was the Earth scenes felt under "produced" versus his home world.

The Mighty Ducks / HBO
--Caught a good portion of the movie, but not from the beginning. I thought it was a pretty good sports movie tale but I thought the Ducks jerseys were the same ones Anaheim used in their inaugural season....not the kiddy ones they used in the movie. I'm actually kind of disappointed the Ducks went away from the teal and purple to their new colors.

Ride along, in theaters. Funny movie, always been a Kevin Hart and Ice Cube fan. Better than most cop comedies.

RE: The movie thread
Rocky IV/ BR
--I had to watch this following the Olympics LOL. I loved the Drago vs Rocky fight training dynamic. Apollo should have never fought Drago to begin with but definitely shouldn't have taunted him. He had that retired jock looking for one last shot mentality.

Thor: The Dark World / BR
--I love this movie way more than the 1st one. Those Dark Elves were just creepy.

Machete Kills / BR
--After a second viewing, first being the theater, I like it more after a second time. That said, it is inferior in every way to the first Machete. Maybe Rodriguez can get Machete Kills Again back up to being on par with the 1st one.

RoboCop(N) / Theater
--I liked how they did it but I found the basic story lines in it versus the first/original RoboCop interesting. Not sure which I prefer although I could be romanticizing my feelings towards the original trilogy. I did like who they got to play certain parts though.

Before I say this let me make it known that I am in my 40s. I saw the first RoboCop in the theaters back in 1987 and I watched this new one in the theatre. I have to admit that I liked the new RoboCop better than the original. The new one emotes more socio-political/ethical subtexts IMO than the original.

Abbie Cornish, who played Alex Murphy's wife in the new one, is smoking hot. She looks like a young Sharon Stone.
