Who's going to be the next head coach of Utah State Aggie Football?

Athletic Director Randy Spetman has said he'll choose someone by January 1st, 2005. Is that early enough to keep up with recruiting?

It is already December, has anybody from Utah St. heard anything about the coaching search?

Names that top the current list are:

Michael Canales, Arizona OC
Brent Guy, Arizona State DC
Kent Baer, Notre Dame DC
Paul Rhodes, Pittsburg DC

Some bozo also mentioned former BYU HC Gary Crowton, but it's doubtful that he's serious or that the Aggies would want him. Same with Dixie State College (a JC in Southern Utah) HC, Greg Crowshaw. Dipping into the JCs for a head coach is a bit of a stretch.

There are probably additional names out there, but at least 3 of those top four have already been through preliminary interviews. Personally, I don't see how we could go wrong with any of them.

Additional news is that Spetman wants to name a coach before Christmas. That's good news since right now the only people working recruits are lame-duck assistants from the former staff.

I'd like to see Kyle Whittingham, DC Utah get a look, but with the Utah (current school) and BYU (alma mater) jobs open, he might not look at us until those positions have been filled.
