...now it's time for the real season to begin.
It was fun to go through the non-conference schedule without worrying about every game for a change. Santa Clara will leave a mark for awhile, but the team has rebounded nicely from that. They also haven't had a true test yet.
We've been cruising through cupcakes for awhile now, but the competition is about to get much tougher. We're going to have to step up our play in a major way. And, even then, a couple of wins at home won't be a true barometer for this team. The real test comes January 15th in Winston-Salem. Success in the ACC this year will be about stealing wins on the road.

I like this team sooo much. I hope that we continue to improve. I believe that our two weaknesses lie in our back up point guard play and of course health. If everyone can stay healthy, I really like what we can do. I'm gonna be modest and say we got 13-3 in the league for 1st or 2nd.

I don't mean to overlook Maryland or Tech. But, at home, we should win those games. If we win, it doesn't necessarily mean we are the better team.
Now, we still might lose either (or both) of those. And, that will be a cause for concern. But, a win in those two games won't have me proclaiming our greatness.
That's why I say the Wake game is more of a test. It's a road game, and it will force these guys to prove themselves in a (somewhat) hostile environment. A win in that game will mean so much more than either of the other two.

Another concern about our team is our level of play...it's hard to imagine that we could play much better ball. It'll be extremely important for our guys to maintain the energy that they've exhibited thus far, in order to improve or at least keep up this level of play. In my mind, Wake has been very good, but they have not performed to the level that they were hyped to in the preseason. I agree, that our game in Winston Salem will be very telling of how good our ball club is, especially since it follows the Maryland and Georgia Tech matchups.
JD or Rick, are you all going to the game at Wake? If either of you finds a way to get tickets, please pass it along. I'm very interested in going. Thanks.

Tech makes me nervous and as for Wake, well, too much history of them having our number.
