MAC CFP History
Let’s pretend that the 24-team playoff was around since the start of the BCS in the nineties. How many playoff teams would the MAC have received based on contemporary rankings? Based on the upcoming bracket format and yearly BCS/CFP rankings after championship week, we would’ve had these seven first round matchups. 2001 Toledo and 2009 CMU were #25 so they would’ve been the first team out as well.

1999 Marshall: #12 hosting #21 Georgia
2003 Miami: #11 hosting #22 Utah
2003 BG: #24 visiting #9 Miami of Florida
2008 Ball State: #22 visiting #11 TCU
2012 NIU: #15 hosting #18 Michigan
2013 NIU: #23 visiting #10 Oregon
2016 WMU: #15 hosting #18 Stanford

The thought of UGA having to play a CFP road game in Huntington is pretty funny. The new playoff is a mistake, but some of these matchups would’ve been interesting to see.

RE: MAC CFP History
CMU was right on the fringe in 2009, finishing #25 in the country that year.
