I’ve looked into it, my son is waaaay deep on this crap. Hurts me.

1 “Juule” is basically the equivalent of 2 packs of smokes. Not the tar, but the nicotine.
Not even to mention the add-on THC oils and other schit.

Good news is he’s trying to get rid of it, running and swimming again.

We don’t have a clue what this crap does or can do.
We don’t know what we don’t know.

Sorry to hear. This stuff is nasty and super addictive. And they market it like candy with the flavors.

Good luck to him.

Banning it would be useless and probably make it easier for the youngins to get. Super easy to make the stuff yourself.

Nope.

People need to start taking responsibility for their own actions. If you are over 18 and you want to vape, smoke, drink, do drugs, skinny dip, ride without a helmet, drive without a seat belt, play russian roulette etc... then have have at it as along as you don't bother anyone else.

This.

Ban banning ****. People should be free to be as dangerous to their own bodies as they choose.

I quit smoking weed after 20 + years of it because I had become so detached after - surprise - the cartridges came into my life. With thc content of over 90% it was no wonder I couldn't function anymore.

I still eat mushrooms fairly regularly and I will till I die. I don't go anywhere when I do and hang out in the backyard. No threat to anyone. I'll also take DMT or Ayahuasca if given the opportunity. Again, only when in a safe place.

Freedom is a beautiful thing and should be protected at all costs when it doesn't infringe on anyone else.

To play devil's advocate, the demographics of your typical tobacco users are lower income people. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/...story.html

NFW do they have the means to take care of their own medical bills WHEN they need extra medical care to deal with the side effects of nicotine use. The way our system is set up today, we are ultimately on the hook for their poor decisions. That's an infringement on one of our inalienable rights - property - IMHO. Considering that the money the various levels of government have is due to the consent of the governed - they are holding that money in trust for us and spending it in ways to maximize our benefits. Paying the healthcare costs for those who make stupid decisions is ultimately money taken out of our pockets. The same thing goes for those who abuse food, alcohol or any other vice.

Here comes big brother through the "medical cost" door.

When we're talking about a low income person who abuses tobacco... Where do you think the money comes from to pay for his/her medical bills? It's not coming from his/her own savings.

Lots of things effect health. Being on government assistance should not mean giving up your personal liberties. I'll start worrying about poor people smoking as soon as we stop flushing trillions of dollars down the toilet on DoD research and acquisition

So you get to strip lower class citizens of their freedoms and liberties because they don't make enough money to deserve them??

Hmmmm, I wonder where we have heard that before?

Like the other poster said, LOTS of things affect heath. Where do you draw the line and who decides? And who enforces it and how do they enforce it?

But isnt a pod enough to be like smoking many packs of cigarettes? Mach was confusing the "pod" with one fill of the vape pipe.

So if someone was a pack a day smoker they are getting 3/5 to 4/5 less nicotine if the pod on avg last 3 to 5 days

About 8 months ago I talked my son into going back to the nasty pouches that he puts in his mouth and stop vaping. I hate it but the tobacco we know about.

Quote:3-5 days
Most refillable pods last 3-5 days, although that approximation depends on how often you vape. An important aspect is knowing the signs of needing to refill your pod. Two warning signs that you need to change your pod is a reduction in flavor and a reduction in vapor emitted from your pod.Dec 22, 2017

Quote: One JUUL pod contains 20 cigarettes worth of nicotine.
The amount of nicotine in one standard JUUL cartridge is roughly equal to the amount of nicotine in a pack of cigarettes, or about 200 puffs

So mouth cancer instead of lung cancer.

Trying to conflate this with your overly broad statement that a bunch of things affect health is unnecessary. We're talking tobacco and the effects of tobacco on the human body are measurable and quantifiable.

Why shouldn't certain liberties be curtailed if you are on the gov't dole? I think it's more than fair to be required to give up certain things in exchange for bailouts. Shouldn't being on the gov't dole be a temporary situation for damn near everyone? If so, then all the more reason why you shouldn't be striving to get off the dole so that you can have fuller access to the American way of life.

What other parts of the gov't wastes their money on is not relevant to this discussion. Besides, this implies that you are stating that waste is OK in this situation because there is even more waste occurring elsewhere. How is that logical? Waste needs to be confronted regardless.

If you haven't noticed, my issue with people who ring the bell for civil liberties and "our freedoms" is the following: "everyone is all in favor of utilizing their rights; however, they mysteriously change into advocates of gov't spending on bailouts when exercising these rights go badly. People want their rights but don't want to deal with the consequences if exercising their rights causes themselves pain.

RE: Is it time to ban vaping?
I'm a former smoker. I quit cold turkey one day about 25 years ago. I don't mind 2nd hand smoke. I don't mind people smoking.

Anyway, I find it quite hypocritical for the powers-that-be to go all out trying to shut down tobacco while allowing alcohol and pushing MJ legalization.

1st, the decision to go after cigs was an attack on an industry. That aside, smokers were directly impacted. The price of cigs sky-rocketed. And along came smoking alternatives, i.e. vaping.

When justifying their actions against tobacco all we heard about were the health consequences and costs. Well, now what? We were given worse health consequences.

If the push is for government to stay out of my decisions, then STAY OUT OF MY DECISIONS!

Drunk driving accounts for 29% of all fatalities on our nation's roads. Get rid of alcohol and you save over 10,000 lives per year.

Get rid of alcohol and you save over 88,000 lives per year from alcohol-related issues.

Since legalization of MJ we've seen a dramatic increase in impaired driving issues. In fact, since legalization studies show the odds of being involved in a car accident increase by 83% under the influence of THC.

Increased motor vehicle accident rates impact everyone who buys car insurance.

Last year USAA increased my car insurance premiums even though I had no claims, tickets or accidents. I called to ask why. The answer: because TN had more accidents than projected.

Anyway, back to topic....

Personally, I think we should crack down on vaping because it is incredibly harmful. But, I also think we should crack down on alcohol and marijuana.

Given that most people don't agree and given that a ban on either substance won't work in practice, leave it all alone.

If people want to drink to the point of personal harm, let them.
If people want to smoke to the point of personal harm, let them.

Or.... quit being hypocritical and end it all.

nicotine is the addictive agent that introduces all the other chems....it's the carcinogens that kills cells or opens up the cancer gene...

where's Mach and his Juul cods when you need him...NYSE:MO - Altria bought them out some time ago...down ~15% over the past 6 mos.....sweet dividend though with a marginal PE....

they're now packaging thc levels and chemicals that I wouldn't consider vaping in any version of sanity....much less any version that is nicotine based...

disclaimer: 420 is only 1.2 hrs. away...is quite safe, non-addictive, and healthy for the belly and mind if you know the 'source'...

blame the stupid and propaganda for what you are now seeing on the streets....

I saw MS garnered enough signatures to put medical marijuana on the ballot next year. Good to hear.

But the problem is people like Tom would want the government to pay for these people's healthcare so in the long run, it screws those of us not vaping.

My son is 24 years old and can make his own choices . I no longer can demand or set punishment for the things he does.

Right now the evil we know is better than what we dont know. So yes, the pouches of tobacco are better than vaping. If it was my choice he he never would have picked up the habit. I would rather for him to stop but at this point he chooses not to. Since his son was born he has slowed down. Maybe when his son is old enough to tell his father how nasty the crap is...

he will stop

Controlling or stopping addiction only works when a person wants to or has something in their life worth fighting the addiction and stopping.

To the question of this topic. I want the government out of my choices of what I do or put in my body

Vaping is quite possibly the most douchiest thing to come out in the past 10 years (unless you're using it for it's original intended use - to ween yourself off cigarettes and quit smoking all together).

RE: Is it time to ban vaping?
To the argument of medical cost from being a smoker each person is paying around $3.00 a pack for taxes to cover this. Around $75,000 (2 packs a day) over a 35 years. That's at today's taxes so my guess well over $125,000 if a person is 21 years old today. With in the next year or so you will see our state and federal government taxing vape products like they do tobacco......

cash cow that they will not let go, untaxed. Of course these taxes will be in the name of safety for the young kids, yeah, right.
