I'm a Bucs fan. Been one since I was 6 years old in 1982. I put up with Jack Thompson, Bo Jackson stiffing us, Vinny Testaverde having his talent wasted by Ray Perkins, 5-dash-2, 15 straight losing seasons, etc...

I can't ditch them now.

But the rest of the league I can.

Thanks, NFL! This Bud's for you!

Somehow I don't think that's the right target audience.

Yeah, it makes me wonder if they've given up and are now going after a different demographic.

Yep, but I'll bet none of you knew that the SF 69s were changing their colors to the Rainbow colors. Yep, next year. I heard it on CNN from an anonymous source. 03-wink

They've got the products.

I wonder if "Out of Stock" and "This product is currently unavailable" means they're flying off the shelf or they can't move them.

Do you know the reason Bo stiffed the bucs?

Oh, of course. They screwed him out of his eligibility. In addition, there was a team BBQ/fishing trip in which the other players pulled Jackson aside and told him not to come to Tampa since the owner was a cheapskate POS who made players pay for their own sodas.

What is worse is that the 49ers offered the Bucs Roger Craig, Ronnie Lott, Freddie Solomon, and a few draft picks for the rights to Jackson - and they turned it down!

Typical Hugh Culverhouse Bucs.

EDIT: The stories I could tell about the Bucs in those days, lol. From QB Craig Erickson calling the head of the Bucs fan club in England in the middle of the night from a strip club, to first round pick Booker Reese buying a car with his signing bonus check and telling the car dealer to "give him the change", to Ray Perkins and Ron Heller getting into a fight at halftime in 1987, to fans yelling the N word at Doug Williams (which is STILL a sore mark, IMO and always unacceptable), to fans from Orlando mailing rotten watermelons to Doug Williams (which still bothers me as as Orlando native), to Williams getting low balled and leaving, to Hugh Culverhouse telling prospective coach Buddy Ryan not to bother trying to win a Lombardi Trophy because they were "too expensive", and on and on....

RE: Do you keep your NFL team?
I have been a serious NFL fanatic for 35 years. I have been disillusioned with all of it since fantasy football exploded 10+ years ago.

I remember for many years having to seek out people to really talk NFL, and when the fantasy nerds exploded suddenly you couldn't find a single person who did not talk about NFL football endlessly.

The problem was none of them really understood the game much and all they really talked about were their stupid fantasy teams. The level of the conversation bottomed out.

03-puke

I am more than happy to see it knocked down a peg or two (or several). I miss the days when there were only real NFL fans in scattered bunches, instead of fantasy football geeks anywhere and everywhere constantly vomiting up their fantasy garbage.

RE: Do you keep your NFL team?
JMO on some of the points brought up here:

The NFL is overexposed:
It was cool to have Sunday games and then MNF as the "premier" game of the week so to speak. I didn't necessarily mind the migration to have a Sunday night cap game in the vein of SNF. But the Thursday night games seem like WAY TOO MUCH IMO. And the NFL and its media partners have also basically tanked MNF as a premier game of the week most weeks in favor of letting NBC get that nod with SNF. On top of that, TNF, in a lot of cases is like a garbage match up unless they somehow got teams peaking or performing at the right time to make that game interesting.

Then, I was fine with ESPN having their own morning pre-game show and really enjoyed their NFL Prime time show as the recap of the week's games but now with SNF pre/post game, NFL Network pre/post game, the networks that show games have pre/post game, and then the insane amount of shows during the week tied to the NFL, fantasy football, and all other aspects of the game it just gets overwhelming to even attempt to do much more than actual game day watching.

Franchise ownership and stadium deals and hijacking cities for facilities:
Yes, I reaped the benefits of an expansion team coming to North Carolina and finally having a home team to care about versus all these out of state teams. However, how does a multi-billion dollar league get off playing financing games with local municipalities in order to strong arm new facilities. If you can afford a pro team, and your league does revenue sharing, then why are you holding a city hostage to fund your play palace? I think some of this has to do with the decline of "family" owned franchises and the move towards corporate based ownership groups. That said, its not just the NFL, its the NHL, NBA, and what other sports league you want to name.

On the kneeling aspect:

I didn't have a problem with the point of the protest but I did have an issue with being tied to the National Anthem being played.

If the NFL didn't have an actual standardized policy on how players, coaches, and anyone else you want to throw in there has to act/behave during the National Anthem then that is their own hole they dug.

In some cases, like Kapernick's pig socks bright idea for one, a lot of the players lost respect for the cause they were kneeling for when other actions done by them seem to undermine the protest or they don't appear to have any strong things in the works for working with the issue. In other words, some players actions detract from their goal and others seem to be latching onto coattails without any specific things they want to do about it.

I also have a problem with the media circus surrounding the whole thing. Very little addressing the issues the protest is about but more about who is/isn't kneeling, why is it during the anthem, lets get all the video shots of who is/isn't kneeling, lets get this brought up everywhere all the time about... Quite honestly its gotten so bad that I tune into the games I can watch later just to avoid all of that being rehashed. Then all the media outlets seem to know it draws ratings when it gets brought up so whether is FOXNews, NBC, or even ESPN they can't let it go on just the kneeling part. Hardly any media screen time is put to use about actual issue and actions taken in regards the issue the protest was even started for.

Lastly, I'm sick of hearing about Fantasy Football everywhere.
It gets annoying and it seems that is the only way the NFL tries to hype certain games or matchups in that they are trying to prop it up via the fantasy aspect for your own roster in your league. Honestly, you don't need to watch the games, all you need is boxscores to do this but I digress.

I also don't like the constant upsell during games. You are made to be out as less of a fan unless you spend a hundred dollars on a jersey. The NFL treats its customers as ATM's and not as valued customers. In addition, the incessant breaks in action and ridiculous commercials rankle many.

If you think the incessant commercials are annoying, think about what you are sitting through if you paid good money for a ticket. Three minutes of nothing.

In light of recent revelations regarding the seriousness of concussions I can understand erring on the side of caution these days but it sure has taken away some of the roughness I require from football. Those two clips show just how bad those calls were.

As much as I love football I've watched 1-2 games in the last year and don't plan on watching anymore until the league grows a pair and prohibits expressions of political protests from occurring at the games. Exercise your social conscience and consciousness on your own time and dime.

You know what rankles me ? When someone's team loses but a so called fan is still happy b/c their fantasy team won - ESPECIALLY when it is a fantasy player they own that did well against their team!

A bunch of men in tights should certainly appreciate big burly sweaty men so maybe their viewership from that demo will increase if they're more inclusive. Good luck reviving anything under that model.

95% of viewers want to watch the super stars. When Aaron Rodgers got pancaked and knocked out for the season it hurt the bottom line. So they instituted a new rule to try to prevent it from happening again. New Rule

Ironically it was the Vikings who took out Aaron Rodgers and the first team called for the new rule.

Quote:A rushing defender is prohibited from committing such intimidating and punishing acts as "stuffing" a passer into the ground or unnecessarily wrestling or driving him down after the passer has thrown the ball, even if the rusher makes his initial contact with the passer within the one-step limitation provided for in (a) above. When tackling a passer who is in a defenseless posture (e.g., during or just after throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down or land on top of him with all or most of the defender's weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to wrap up the passer with the defensive player's arms and not land on the passer with all or most of his body weight.

The announcer for the Vikings in that clip above is Paul Allen, and he is a great radio voice who makes listening to Vikings games well worth it.

Listen, it's baseball through Oct, CFB through Jan, then the NFL playoffs and a Superbowl party. That's fair enough for me and gets my point across enough for the NFL but still allows me the enjoyment of sitting around the fireplace watching football.

Lol... Never seen jerseys being sold heavy handed. $100 for screen print, $150 stitch, and like $400 for game. It's also tough to buy jerseys now with free agency lol.

That said, yes, I own quite a few jersies for my pro teams but I was deal hunting like a mofo. I only paid retial twice on some retro Hornets jersies because they couldn't be gotten otherwise.

I will say that in my experience, the fan in jersey penetration is higher at nhl and nfl games with the edge percentage wise to nhl games.

Concessions are hight at any sporting event.
