Many communities in the storm’s path across the southeast have faced devastation, including infrastructure, houses, and businesses washing away in floods. North Carolina, particularly devestated, is a key battleground state this election. And if it was republican in charge, the same thing would likely happen. We were getting our driver's licenses renewed etc. in Temps for years after the storm. They were everywhere. A lot more efficient then than it is now. In NC it's the worst possible combination - Republican region took the brunt of the damage, and the state has a Democrat governor. Anyone running a road block stopping people going into the area is a North Carolina law enforcement officer. FEMA doesn’t do that. But it’s standard operating procedure after a hurricane to limit access to people who live there and the legit aid organizations, everyone else can funnel through them. There are donation centers outside that are collecting things to truck in. This stops tourists and window shopping looters. Having worked with FEMA in the past right now FEMAs number one priority is urban search and rescue, food and water distribution, and comms for local agencies. If anyone is in the Asheville area they are taking volunteers for wellness checks at the register of deeds office on college. |
