This is something I have felt strongly about going back to the Clinton/Bush debates in 1992. It has been frustrating to watch the GOP play the role of Charlie Brown attempting to kick a football, only to have Lucy (moderators) yank it away at the last minute. Over and over and over again, for more than 30 years. JD Vance is one of the very few people with the skillset to overcome the media’s pro-Blue bias and dominate the stage in spite of them. But of course, most aren’t able to do that.

We will see what happens in 2028 and beyond. But just from talking to some GOP friends and scrolling through conservative media, I think our side may have finally learned the lesson, and will finally stop marching to a tune selected by Margaret Brennan, Norah O’Donnell, etc. Here’s hoping.

And none of that ^^^ is to say that GOP leaders/candidates should never step into the ring with adversarial media. There is a time and a place for that. But debates against Dem. candidates and moderators who are carrying the Dem’s water while feigning neutrality is neither.
