The Mountain West is in discussions with Tarleton State, an FCS program in the WAC - joeben69 - 10-01-2024 08:38 PM https://x.com/RossDellenger/status/1841128732334977047 RE: The Mountain West is in discussions with Tarleton State, an FCS program in the WAC - Itinerant Texan - 10-03-2024 06:07 PM As a Tarleton fan/supporter/enthusiast, I can't help but keep wondering, where the hell is this guy?! Check out Steve Uryasz on X. Vice President & Director of Athletics @TarletonSports. Athletics Administrator at Five NCAA Division I Institutions. https://x.com/STEVEURYASZ This is his BIG moment. Taking us FBS is exactly what we hired him to do. Does anybody else find it strange we haven't heard a peep out of him? Give us SOMETHING, man!
RE: The Mountain West is in discussions with Tarleton State, an FCS program in the WAC - FoUTASportscaster - 10-03-2024 09:51 PM I suspect the MWC won't be their home. But I would bet pretty hard they will head to CUSA. RE: The Mountain West is in discussions with Tarleton State, an FCS program in the WAC - Spolovilo4EVER - 10-04-2024 01:32 AM I see MWC not CUSA. CUSA would get us to FBS, But the WAC is a better league and travel would be far easier in the MWC as opposed to CUSA. The teams are better in the MWC and would generate far more excitment to play NEW MEXICO WYOMING and AIR FORCE than it would to play Kennesaw St, Jacksonville St, and Middle Tennessee St and all the rest of the bums in CUSA. Attendance ( FB BB and University) would explode even more if we were in the MWC, it might actually decline if we went to CUSA. CUSA would just be a rut we would have to work even harder to get out of and it is totally not worth it...MWC or bust WAC over CUSA. I get that it's fun to dunk on CUSA but cmon man, this is ridiculous. SHSU, La Tech, and MSU would be good draws simply due to proximity. RE: The Mountain West is in discussions with Tarleton State, an FCS program in the WAC - Spolovilo4EVER - 10-04-2024 09:43 AM None of those would draw a big crowd during deer season, but the Front Range MWC schools defineately would! RE: The Mountain West is in discussions with Tarleton State, an FCS program in the WAC - BlueDragon - 10-04-2024 11:06 AM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUik3FUJiag Texas State has declined Mountain West offer. Tarleton State looks to be a primary target of Mountain West to get into Central Time Zone. NMSU doesn't add much value at this point to the Mountain West. So, it appears this is as much about exposure for the conference as it is the schools they want to add. Apparently Tarleton is the leading FCS program for conferences to jump to FBS currently. RE: The Mountain West is in discussions with Tarleton State, an FCS program in the WAC - Outsider - 10-04-2024 12:07 PM I really don't want to see you guys go, but would be happy for you and wish success for the programs. I just think we have such good history and rivalry. We might do something like what Baylor did with their new arena, they played games there but the practice facilities and coaches offfices were not completed until later. RE: The Mountain West is in discussions with Tarleton State, an FCS program in the WAC - Texas48 - 10-04-2024 02:09 PM I wonder how the other schools are going to feel to have to fly to DFW or Abilene, rent busses and then drive the 1.5-2 hours to Stephenville to play. It's one thing for the other FCS schools to do it, it's old hat to them. However, the schools in the MWC are not so used to it. The Stephenville airport doesn't have enough room to double its runway length does it? If not, ABI or DFW are the other options. Would be interesting to see the current MWC teams' thoughts on this. Actually, the Stephenville airport has been planning a runway extension for years. This might actually be the push they need. My guess is what you see is what you get and with Tarleton the upside is just beginning. After the MW gets to a comfortable number maybe they circle back and pick up NMSU as a safety net. Who knows? Even if the idea about attendance is true, TSU would be insane to pass on CUSA to stay in the WAC. With CBU a prime candidate for the WCC, they'd stick around in a conference with six members in a time frame where teams get a look then an invite from a conference in less than a week. As the WAC has little to no expansion targets, members are quite jittery right now. That's to say nothing on the FBS invite alone. RE: The Mountain West is in discussions with Tarleton State, an FCS program in the WAC - RCI - 10-06-2024 05:19 PM I, too, would hate to see you guys from Tarleton go but I know you have an FBS goal. So, you have our best wishes for whatever you do. With all the topsy-turvy going on, I am happy for ACU to sit tight for a while to see just what stabilizes and becomes the most attractive future path or conference. We likely trail Tarleton in becoming ready for a transition, but I sure like our rising status and financial bedrock. We have some academic goals involving more expansion in critical areas of study and more graduate and doctoral programs in our research areas. Athletics is in good shape for the most part, especially when the new baseball stadium is ready in the Spring. It will be pretty special. I don't know quite when the golf teams' expanded practice range at the Byron Nelson clubhouse and short game center will be completed but hopefully by spring. I just hope for a solid conference home and a return to the days of knowing who your opponents are. I honestly don't know many details at all about some of the schools that are in the UAC. ACU is solid. Like with ACU, I'd rather be in a conference with Tarleton than not, but, like RCI, I wish the Tarleton people all the best. I have tentative goals of traveling to ACU and Tarleton this men's basketball season. RE: The Mountain West is in discussions with Tarleton State, an FCS program in the WAC - RCI - 10-06-2024 10:23 PM Thanks UTArlingtonMaverick, you are much appreciated. Something to share for those who don't know, our star quarterback is named "Maverick." He is the son of the ex UT Austin quarterback Rick McIvor. Anyway, Maverick McIvor is doing a great job and has about the second most passing production in the FCS, maybe first after beating UCA. Anyway, we like the name "Maverick." Just know, I wish you guys were still playing football, but that is a song sung often on this board. I value UTA's research and engineers because we need many more in this country if we are going to continue to lead the world. I think ACU's fastest growing area is Physics and Engineering (unless it is nursing school,) so we applaud schools like UTA and others in the WAC. Tarleton's agriculture productivity is so very important. Energy, Water, Health, and Agriculture are really critical areas so we can have futures with wonderful sports and lifestyles. I think about a basketball player, a starting center for four years and a co-captain for two years, who won the Einstein Prize for producing the science that created Quantum Computing. Sports can teach a lot and fulfills lives with valuable experiences. I do want us to preserve the value of colligate athletics. UTArlingtonMaverick is one of the few posters I know who have been anti-football. I haven't seen him in a while. I wonder, with UTA on the verge of being homeless simply for not having football in this geographic region if that viewpoint has changed or morphed any. RE: The Mountain West is in discussions with Tarleton State, an FCS program in the WAC - Spolovilo4EVER - 10-06-2024 11:36 PM I hope we get the MWC invite, it would be such a gut punch to have to go to CUSA. I think ACU will trail behind to FBS in another 5 years if not sooner. I think it will depend on the conference situation and what becomes of WAC. I know ACU will NOT be going to the SLC, they are way too good for that in every aspect. But if they are forced into the Summit or ASUN I see ACU taking the FBS plunge sooner rather than later. UTA w/o FB has more limited options. Summit MVC or CUSA could all be possibilities, I do not see UTA lowering themselves to the SLC either. |
