PAC12 Reforming - TexanFan - 09-12-2024 08:58 AM So far, Boise, Fresno, San Diego St and Colorado St are in. I don’t know if Tarleton goes to the MWC, but we will at least backfill a an FBS conference who loses schools to the Mountain. RE: PAC12 Reforming - Outsider - 09-12-2024 11:25 AM I think the Summit/MVFC will be the first conference looked at. The Dakotas and Montanas are the most ready. The WAC/UAC schools come into play for any further backfilling somewhere afterwards. RE: PAC12 Reforming - TardisCaptain - 09-12-2024 11:36 AM The Mountain West will target FBS schools first. If they have to pull from the FCS, it will be 99% from the Big Sky. If more than two schools leave the Big Sky, then Utah Tech and Southern Utah will be invited to the league. RE: PAC12 Reforming - lakesbison - 09-12-2024 11:53 AM NDSU would be perfect FIT with all the "STATE" schools. "The Mountain West will target FBS schools first" ---- Not necessarily. I mean would you rather have Montana and Idaho/ NDSU and SDSU or UTEP and NMSU? I would take those 4 and a few more FCS schools over UTEP and NMSU any day! And those 2 are the ONLY FBS schools that they could get. (OK MAYBE Tx St but that is a big mayber at this point) "If they have to pull from the FCS, it will be 99% from the Big Sky"--- I think NDSU and SDSU have an equal if not better chance at getting in than the Montana's ( who have been adament about staying FCS) and Idaho ( who is the only team to go back down to FCS from FBS) "If more than two schools leave the Big Sky, then Utah Tech and Southern Utah will be invited to the league"---If the BSC loses 2/more schools that means it will be the Montana's Idaho and possibly Cal Davis and if that happens NAU and Weber will probably come to the WAC. RE: PAC12 Reforming - Spolovilo4EVER - 09-12-2024 01:12 PM They need 2 more FBS schools to meet the min requirement of 8. FCS schools would not count for 2 years because of transition so to stay "legal" they would have to get to 8 with FBS unless they can get a waiver from the NCAA which is iffy at best. After 8 they can invite whoever from the FCS they want but it is highly doubtful they will draw from the FCS at all. Cal and SMU could be in play if the ACC implodes (Stanford would go Indy before being roomates with Boise and Fresno), but that is beyond their control at the moment and would be a "bonus" not a "plan". I think "Plan A" is to try and steal 2/more AAC teams which might prove challenging. "Plan B" would be to pony up more cash for 2 more MWC teams. But the Mountain West is now at the minimum of 8 and will need to start sending out invites. Realignment continues, here we go! RE: PAC12 Reforming - TardisCaptain - 09-12-2024 01:34 PM The Mountain West has 7 full time schools and one football only school. They have to expand. NMSU and UTEP would jump at the chance to be in a league with New Mexico. If AFA, Wyoming and Utah State are still there, those are schools that they have played with in the past. While the fans of the Dakota schools want to move up, I don't know if the administrations want to. They had a chance when CUSA was desperate for bodies and didn't jump. RE: PAC12 Reforming - Spolovilo4EVER - 09-12-2024 02:59 PM I do not think CUSA ever invited NDSU/SDSU or even visited them. But they would jump at the chance if they were given one in the FBS. The MWC down to 8 teams will add 2-4 teams and possibly more if they lose anyone else which is a possibility ( AFA to AAC for exaple) Not so sure Montana's and Idaho would leave FCS, they might but it is by no means a sure thing. NDSU and SDSU would say yes in a heartbeat. RE: PAC12 Reforming - Spolovilo4EVER - 09-12-2024 03:18 PM (09-12-2024 08:58 AM)TexanFan Wrote: So far, Boise, Fresno, San Diego St and Colorado St are in. Would love the MWC but yeah, I think we will have to settle for CUSA initially and move up from there when another oppurtunity arises. The more chaos the better chance we have. CUSA could get picked apart by every other G5 FBS conference from all directions NMSU/UTEP -->MWC Delaware--->MAC/AAC MTSU/WKU---> MAC/SBC We just have to be patient and have our $5M check filled out to the NCAA. RE: PAC12 Reforming - Pounder - 09-12-2024 08:09 PM If Ross Dellenger is right about a deal existing where the new Pac-12 gets a football playoff autobid, then they get to pick from a rather large list. But I have grave doubts about that. Even if that deal exists, I suspect that it may not when a 2026 deal (not completed yet) is finalized. At that point, they need to be clearing $14 million per school per year to offset the travel for anyone they try to pluck from the AAC. I don’t see that happening, either. THEN… they need to go back to the Mountain West, probably as late as possible, and either pay out even more money to get a couple more MWC schools, or take advantage of the end of the Grant of Rights (which I believe ends with the current TV contracts in 2026), or get creative. Imagine Sacramento State pledging major facilities upgrades, for instance. But they’ve probably done enough damage to the MWC that agreements might get torn up. The MWC did make the mistake of trying to present a united front that did more to protect Wyoming and New Mexico rather than incentivize the four wanderers to stay. The remaining Mountain West just got jumped in media negotiations and are going to get a pay cut. That means the conference has to be extra careful about travel costs, and while that may not exclude Texas schools, that may limit their options. It’d be interesting to see if they present a wink/nudge to urban schools like Sac and Portland State (who both need major investments… and may not be able to engage) before they start doing the math about flights to Montana. That ain’t cheap. RE: PAC12 Reforming - TexanFan - 09-12-2024 08:13 PM RN would be a fantastic time for Tarleton to announce the tear down of the old home side of the stadium and the construction of new stands and suites. RE: PAC12 Reforming - Itinerant Texan - 09-12-2024 08:30 PM https://herosports.com/fcs-pac-12-rebuild-domino-effect-bzbz/ This proposed Pac 6 needs to get 8 asap, and back to 12 by 2026 to meet CFP auto-bid requirements. Lots more shakeup coming. Tarleton is in a really good position geographically to go MWC, SBC or CUSA, depending on how the dominoes fall. RE: PAC12 Reforming - TexanFan - 09-13-2024 11:37 AM https://www.extrapointsmb.com/p/im-hearing-pac12-expansion-mwc-everybody-else And one more from Matt Brown. He mentions Tarleton but also UVU, Cal Baptist and Grand Canyon to improve MWC basketball. RE: PAC12 Reforming - runamuck - 09-13-2024 01:35 PM (09-13-2024 11:37 AM)TexanFan Wrote: https://www.extrapointsmb.com/p/im-hearing-pac12-expansion-mwc-everybody-else I could see them snapping up GCU to balance Hawaii not bringing the oly sports. their sports can play at a high level and they are in the footprint. the montana/s.d./n.d. schools would fit as they are all state flagship type schools that have strong regional following. I wouldnt even be surprised if Idaho decided to pony up and want in. some say they wouldnt want utep or nmsu but they bring good facilities, location and existing historic rivalries. besides, they probably wish they could get out of the current version of cusa. IMHO RE: PAC12 Reforming - Spolovilo4EVER - 09-13-2024 02:47 PM Question, if UVU/CBU/GCU get an invite to the MWC do they have to pay a $5m Fee as well or is that only for Football? I would file a lawsuit against the NCAA if that were the case and Tarleton had to pay $5m but UVU or whoever did not to be able to join the same conference. RE: PAC12 Reforming - Spolovilo4EVER - 09-13-2024 02:53 PM I think for Idaho, they are kind of in the same situation as WTAM with thier admin being anti FBS and pro FCS. Their fans also seem to favor FCS and most do not want to move. But if the Montana's move that would change the equation and they would be adament about going FBS hell or high water. I have been doing some independent research on this!

One can make valid arguments that the FCS candidates are better choices, but there is no denying that they have run out of FBS options after UTEP and NM St. Will those 2 stay in CUSA or move to the MWC is a better question. A week ago they would have both loved a MWC invite, now.....I am not so sure.
