Amazon will acquire “exclusive access” to a full night of NBA games each week of the regular season as part of its expected rights deal with the league, John Ourand of Puck reported Thursday. Though the games would be available only through the Prime Video service, it is expected that Amazon would rely on local RSN crews to produce the broadcasts.

I'm not sure exactly what that means. You'd be able to watch the Knicks on Amazon PRime Video on IDK Wednesday night with the MSG announcers. Would you be able to watch them on MSG? I don't know.

Beyond the exclusive night of games, Amazon is also said to be interested in the NBA League Pass out-of-market package and...

Pretty natural fit with Prime Video, either as an add-on package (like Sunday Ticket with Youtube TV) or as a throw-in (like Amazon PRime Thursday Night NFL)

per Ourand, has notified the league that it plans to negotiate on behalf of Diamond Sports Group — the bankrupt RSN operator it agreed to bail out in January — for a package of in-market rights

That's why they bailed out DSG, I assume.

The Amazon-NBA deal is also believed to include a more traditional slate of regular season and playoff games.

I wonder if that's broken up by playoff series, the way they have been, or whether Amazon claims that night-of-the-week, regular season, postseason, In-Season-Tournament.

If true, my understanding is that every game on that night would broadcast on Prime sort of a mini league pass type thing. So I would guess that your local RSN would be blacked out .I have heard that the most teams local broadcast are going to have both local OTA & streaming options

Only time will tell. Or someone with a Puck subscription

I could imagine either model. Amazon having exclusivity would cost more, and generate more friction with the (non-DSG) RSN's. Amazon NOT having exclusivity would make the package worth less to Amazon, but it's still a substantial selling point for Prime. "Wednesday Night NBA on Prime", every game across the league, especially if they build a hyperactive show like NFL Redzone that jumps from game to game showing replays of the action from the last few minutes over 3-5 games at a time.

The NBA is going for the most money, they don't give a crap about RSNs, just as the NFL doesn't give a crap about RSNs.

$6b, split between Comcast, ESPN and Amazon. It's not the $7.5b they were shooting for, but it's still a huge increase over the old $2.5b deal. Yet another example that sports are not dead, and the move into streaming isn't killing anything at all.

I wonder if this opens up TNT for some potential CFB plays down the road? Also, Fox and CBS should have a lot of money to spend. Could they all combine on the next B1G deal and shut out NBC and ESPN?

I get there is an angle for streaming options versus cable channels for sports, but if I'm in the area/state of my local team and I have to subscribe to a crap load of apps to watch to watch a complete season's worth of games, then at some point I'm out.

I loathe paying Amazon any money for the free shipping up front, and not enough of their content is worth me paying over and above the D+/ESPN/Hulu bundle and NF that I already have.
