Are we sure it was a tire and not an illegal? I remember seeing Afghans falling off planes a few years back similar to that.

It's not hard to imagine the damage one of those tires coming down could do, they're pretty big. I remember we needed most of the guys at the EB66 Phase Docks just to install a tire. We didn't have any fancy tool to install it so we had to do it the old fashion way, with ooommph and a rail from a hydraulic ladder. It was quite a job because you had to align it with the stators for the brakes to work and of course fit the "drum". Ah memories.

Not really surprising, given that Boeing seems to be in the news lately for a lot of the wrong reasons.

Quote:Airbus widens aircraft delivery lead over Boeing as Max crisis deepens

- Boeing handed over 27 planes in February, while Airbus handed over 49.
- Boeing’s 737 Max quality control crisis has deepened since a door plug blew out midflight
from an Alaska Airlines Max 9 in January.

In 2008 EADS/Northrop Grumman had the winning bid for a tanker contract with the Air Force for planes to be built in Mobile, Alabama. Boeing challenged the loss and it went back out for bid. EADS once again had the better bid, but Boeing was selected for the $35 billion dollar contract instead.

Airbus was introduced to Mobile during this time and saw our potential and ended up building a manufacturing facility here. It has expanded a couple times since then with a major expansion ongoing. Seeing Boeing fail and Airbus succeed is a bit of poetic justice.

Quote:What is with the spate of United Airlines mechanical failures involving it's San Francisco based aircraft?

- Yesterday, a United Boeing 777-300 jet from Sydney to San Francisco was aborted when 10 seconds into its flight jet fuel began spilling from the rear right landing gear.

- Last Thursday, a United 777-200 took off from San Francisco to Japan when a landing gear wheel fell off during take off. The wheel crashed onto two cars in an employee parking lot.

- Last Friday, a United Airbus 320 heading from SFO to Mexico City had to re-route to Los Angeles because of hydraulic issues.

Retired airline pilot Douglas Rice made this observation to NBC: “All three aircraft either originate or terminate in San Francisco."

Woke city + Woke airlines = fly at your own risk!
